I saw a couple of these Goodmans GV101YRH32 boxes at ASDA Strabane today. Given the track record of some of the other Goodmans models when combining Freeview HD with Saorview, I'd be wary. However, if anyone was interested in testing them, the price is OK at under £140 and returns would not be a problem. I don't know anything about availability in other ASDA branches.

I bought one of these last YEAR & had nothing but problems.

    1) The favourites button quite simply does not work!
I cannot switch favourite channels on & off.
I cannot access favourite channels from the programme guide.
When scrolling through what should be the favourites channels, non-favourites are also displayed. Including the pay per view porn which is next to the HD channels.
There is also no option to delete channels that I have no interest in.

    2) When a series link is recorded, the recorded series cannot be deleted at once. Instead, each programme has to be deleted individually, despite "delete series" being shown on the on screen display.

    3) Once a series link has been set to record, there is no way of cancelling that scheduled recording. They disappear from the library for a short while, but then re-appear when it is refreshed. The only way of stopping a series link recording is to format the hard drive.

I contacted customer support when I bought the box last YEAR, to which I got no reply. After sending a second email, I did get a reply saying that this was a known bug & a software update was being worked on.

I have sent several more emails asking when the softare update would be ready, & if it was an over the air update or downloadable to usb. I got a reply saying that it would be in 4 to 6 weeks time.

After waiting approx. 8 I sent a further email last week, to ask where the software update was. I got a reply saying that it was on the website.... but it is nowhere to be found. I've sent a further email asking where on the website this software update is(nt).

I feel these bugs are really simple elementary things that should have been picked up during product testing, & should be really quite embarrassing for a company with a good reputation like Goodmans. Which makes me wonder - who the hell are Goodmans employing to program these things!!???

I've updated it.... & there doesn't seem to be much (if any) difference.

Favourites list is just as useless as before, & I've not recorded anything of value to attempt to delete the whole series.
Overall system stability seems to be the only improvement - it doesn't crash out with a black screen anymore.

I only use it to watch/record the HD channels to be honest, as its too much of a pain for anything else.
