Anyone else noticed all 5 hours of Barry Dunnes show are ad free? I've heard of an ad free hour but 25 hours a week during peak times speaks volumes about 98 FM's lack of advertising revenue,it would certainly explain recent departures .

I've tuned in at various times between ten and three and heard Barry mention 'ad free 60 minutes ' but it could only be a temporary thing, I m open to correction, but generally when a station sells an 'ad free 60 minutes ' its because of advertising shortfall. It's a possibility that advertisers are running scared since the last jnlr.

Ha you're on the money there, local stations outside the pale make a fortune in death notices, it would be novel but probably a turn off for Dublin audiences.

It must be the big pre-Christmas ad spend run up now so its crazy if they are running ad free during daytime

Lol no i couldnt listen to 5 hours straight, Barry is ok, a tad bland, much the same as andy preston / ben murray , I just dipped in and out of the day to see what way they were doing the new 5 hour slot. My preference to be honest is uk radio, it has bags more personality and just just inane dj's repeating what they say in links ad nauseum. Barry Dunne feels the need to begin every link with : 'This is 98Fm' , how's about a bit of variation there Barry now that ur doing 5 hours a day?

Radio 101 heybaby! Mention the station at the top of each link. Its not rocket science. What radio stations have you worked at where the PD told you not to mention the station name?

No, I get the idea of mentioning the station in each link, my point was that its unusual to hear a jock mention the station preceded by the words 'This is', and he does it every time, you dont hear 'This is fm104', 'This is spin 1038' 'This is Phantom' and nobody else on 98 fm precedes mentioning the station with 'This Is', its a minor detail but something that should be picked up.

While im on the subject of 98fm, they are still ad free for 5 hours per day 10 - 3pm, 5 days a week, and this is 6 weeks out from christmas, how long can a station sustain having no ads for 25 hours during daytime programming?

Used to crack me up a few years ago listening to a program 98 or 104 which they kept boasting was 'ad free' immediately followed by a reminder that it was sponsored by Carlsberg!

    Ironic or what?

They do about 5 minutes of ads before the news but other than that, its about 55 minutes of no ads which is staggering.

Must be horrible - 5 hours of radio and all you can say is " It's 98 fm, on the way One Direction & your chance to win a scratch card "

Is it definitely 5 hours ad-free?

I've been listening to Ray Foley the past two days, and yesterday morning when he was talking to Barry Dunne, Barry said that there would be two hours ad free, between 10-11 and 1-2...

I only listen to Foley though, so maybe I just misunderstood him.
