I remember reading here before about a putting game to play when your practicing, but i can't remember the rules of it. Hopefully someone can remind me.

It was something like this, you have 10 putts from 30 feet and your aim is to score less than 18, or 21, or something like that. Not entirely sure.

Or have i gone bat**** crazy and made it up?

I think it was from 30 feet you should have 18 putts as in hole 2 and 2 putt the rest.

Heard of a similar one with 9 putts, 3 short, 3 medium, 3 long, all from different spots, and the aim is to score 15 or better I think?

If you are practicing with someone a good one around a chipping green is you both play 3 balls chipping on from the same position to a chosen flag. Nearest ball 3 points then 2 then 1. Repeat game up to 10 points. Best of 5 games wins. You'll play lots of up and downs you won't even realise it. Takes the boredom out of practicing short game.

One question, and I only ask because I hadn't done it myself until a few weeks ago.
Have you looked at your putting stroke first before you start practicing it?
I was guilty of watching 100's of swing (irons, driver etc) videos but only seen/took notice of my first putting stroke video a few weeks back.
I realised my stroke was very "wristy".
May be worth checking something like this out before you start practicing.

Considering putting makes up such a high % of your score, there seems to be very few videos that deal with the mechanics of the swing in relation to it's importance.
It's something I completely overlooked for ages

I've done some work on my putting stroke, changing my grip and stance, but they were self impossed with a little guidence from some low handicappers.

Will be getting some lessons on putting soon, but just want to work on something that helps me read the pace and various breaks of the green, without being too boring.

I would not get too mechanical with a putting stroke, as long as u are not missing everything on the same line and during practice u are able to bang in 6 6 footers in a row there is no harm to keep doing that. It is not like a full swing where u have a fault and when u go to the range all u do is practice your fault.
With putting it is just results based and i would never say change to any body. Look at the PGA tour there are no two putting strokes the same everyone has there own grip, swing length, swing speed and every one has a putter that they just like from the pig ugly to the beautiful.

A good putting drill for distance control and feel.

Place a tee peg in the ground about 20 feet away and a 2nd tee at about 25 feet. Start by using 4 balls. Hit the 1st ball past the first tee but not too far past, the second ball goes past the first ball and the third ball past the second. The 4th ball goes past the 3rd but must stop short of the 2nd tee peg. Then work back ways. Hit the 1st ball short of the furthest tee peg, the 2nd ball short of the 1st ball and so on with the final ball still going past the nearer tee peg.

It sounds sort of complicated but it's not. When you get good at it use 5 or 6 balls but don't change the distance between the tee pegs. Use a flat part of the putting green. You can do a mini version of this on the carpet at home.
