Maturity wise we're both on the same level and we get along great but(and I feel bad for saying this) she isn't 17 until around the time I'll be doing my last minute study for the leaving cert. Which means there'll be no sex until the summer. I'll be away for most of the summer and am leaving Ireland after that so probably wouldn't be able to continue the relationship with her anyway.

There's only one year between us in school so it's not really the age gap I have a problem with and to be honest I don't even need sex, it's just that when you know there's no chance of having it it can be a bit off-putting.

Don't want to say this to her because it's not her fault and don't want her to feel pressurised(I wouldn't do anything anyway but still). So do you think should I bother with the relationship or...?

You don't see the relationship as going anywhere: it's limited by time and circumstance. You are young, and she is younger. You don't actually think you "need" sex.

No problem: there is no requirement that a relationship in those circumstances be a sexual one.

Whether you continue with the relationship is down to you (and, of course, her). A close boy-girl relationship without sex can be a very good thing.

Lets be clear - if you engage in sex with this girl you will be breaking the law not her so quite rightly you need to consider things carefully and to your credit you are. You don't really say in your post how she feels about all this and to be honest I don't think you know . 90% of times on this forum posters are advised to be honest - express their feelings and discover their OH's . I have a feeling your gf will be delighted and impressed with you that you are willing to wait if you are . You need to make up your mind . Don't end up with a conviction for statutory rape

saiint - warned and post deleted for encouraging the OP to break the law.

Replies in PI and RI are expected to be well phrased, civil and offer genuine advice. 'Break the law' is not helpful advice.

Anyone who is unsure of what is or isn't allowed in this Forum should familiarise themselves with The Charter again.

    Thanks,

How long have you two been going out for?

To be honest if it's in the early stages of the relationship I'd cut your loses now. The longer you're together the more emotionally invested you'll both become and the harder it will be when you move away next year. Is a long distance relationship something either of you are interested in? If not then just walk away now and save yourselves the extra heartache...

If you do decided to break it off, just be gentle about it. That it's more to do with circumstances than anything else and if things were different you'd love to stay with her. I wouldn't bring sex into it at all.
