got around to watching this yesterday and i have to admit i enjoyed it.

dont get me wrong its shyte and itll confuse the hell out of anyone not too up to speed on the games

but by god they try and i have to give them credit for that.

its still THE most faithful adaptation of a video game going. when you look at resident evil as a comparision theres NOTHING in those films that conveys the genuine feel and setting of the games.

SH not only does this (the girl looks distubingly like the heroine from the third game) it actually succeds in places in capturing the feeling of dread ya get in the game.

its yet ANOTHER 3d film but someone behind this mustve been paying attention to what the lads behind abraham lincoln vampire hunter got up to as its executed VERY well here. the falling ash at the begining of the movie being a stand out feature.

yes theres the usual "stab the audiece" stuff but all in all tis one of the better examples of 3d out there.

the story is paper thin but in a weird way i dont think thats what they were going for . its really more of a visual treat than anything else, reminding me of hellraiser TBH in terms of design and the sheer oppression ya get from the "hell" version of silent hill is remarkable. its a genuinly disturbing place and i was getting a little freaked out at times from the tension.

will this set the screens afire ?

    nah.

but this had DVD beerfest stamped all over it.

overall its a muddled mess story wise but visually stunning with some lovely ideas in it an yes it is set up for a sequel but not so gratuitously to offend. in fact that ties in with a comment from one of the characters quite well in realtion to how "there are many silent hills". by the end sharons delt with hers so whatever new film is made should be made up of a totally different storyline.

    i reckon its a 5/10 for fans.

    prob 3/10 for everyone else

It's the biggest load of **** I think I've ever seen. I quite liked the first film and I'm a big fan of the first two games. But this was truly awful. Went nowhere, nothing happened, and it was about as scary as a small puppy in a halloween costume. It never builds towards anything, the "climax" is a damp squib and the plot is indecipherable at best. Kit Harrington couldn't act his way out of a paper bag, Malcolm McDowell was utterly awful (Ditto Carrie Anne Moss) and Sean Bean can't do an American accent.

The one redeeming feature is the production design which is superb admittedly. But that really is the only thing the movie has going for it.

Oh, your one is kinda hot in fairness though.

Reminds me a bit of Michelle Williams.

Anyway. Avoid at all costs. If it comes on TV late at night in a few years then yeah, maybe if you have a few beers in the fridge. Other than that, absolutely not.

    /\ This.
Probably what annoyed me most, well not *most*, but annoyed me a lot, is that the movie ends by
setting up the Silent Hill movie I actually want to see; one with a male protagonist, who can hopefully kick a bit of monster-ass. But this was so bad I don't know if I'd be bothered, especially not if it's made by the same yahoo who made this one.
I'd gladly have Gans and Avary back for a third movie.

Pretty poor movie, aside from excellent creature design and effects, the whole thing was decidedly bland in every possible aspect, and was completely devoid of a decisive climax, by far it's worst crime.

I liked the first movie, and whilst I found this watchable, it was both a poor movie and even worse sequel. The guy who said it was a late night beers-in-the-fridge movie hit the nail on the head, I think.

Nothing compared to the first, still I love everything silent hill, and they do make great sets. Need more of exploring the town looking at it tbh :p

God it was hard work watching this. Wish I'd walked out.

Mother of god it couldn't be that bad? I thought the first one was quite enjoyable and was looking forward to this...

It's much much worse believe me. At least the first film had atmosphere and tension, I've seen scarier Pixar films than this new one.

When I went back the following day to see Argo I jokingly asked at the counter if I could get my money back as it was so, so bad.

All I got in return was a blank stare.
