Surprised to see Bruen qualifying in Blarney again as they had it last year, thought they would move it around to new clubs each year

Does anyone think its unfair that a club gets home advantage for qualifying?

Take for example the Purcell next year being held in Bandon and East Cork. Would it not be a better system if Bandon were playing their games in East Cork and not at home and vice versa for East Cork. That way every club travels and plays away and no club gets the luxury of home advantage. In my opinion its worth quite a bit to play at home

There is an advantage but at the same time it just doesn't make sense to not have a home team playing in their own backyard. Wouldn't be fair on sending local lads on over an hours drive (or more) to play a different course, when they could be playing somewhere 5 minutes away. At least this way, some of the local members might come out and watch some of the golf whereas they mightn't bother if they have nobody to support.

Also they do rotate the courses every year so each team does get to play at home every once in a while. Works out evenly enough in the end.

But next year Blarney play at home again in the Bruen? 2 years in a row

Hardly fair, this year they qualified at home. I know players availible change but if they have most still on the team isn't that a little head start?

In the other Cork section of Bruen this year Douglas qualified, also with home advantage.

Didn't realise they got it two years in a row. Not very fair really then i suppose, but generally it is. Might come down to also what clubs can afford to host one of the comps also.

Does anyone know when the draw for the Pierce Purcell matches takes place ? Can't wait for the banter to start again !!

It's a very windy spot at the best of times and the hurricane there on the Sunday made it a joke in my opinion, also affected the Purcell 2 yrs previous

I agree both home clubs should swap and play at each others place, 2 yrs in a row isn't a bit fair

On the Sunday of the Bruen is it? Can't remember the wind being terrible, maybe it was. But the wind is something no club can do anything about, in fact a windy day can be one of the truest tests of golf

What i'd be more concerned about is that a club has to know their own course better than a visiting club. Over the course of a weekend this has to be worth a few holes!!
By all accounts the Munster GUI have been very impressed with the way Blarney have hosted the competitions previously. Having a hotel on site and being able to cater for a large number for food is a major plus. The National GUI have also visited i'm told with a view to hosting a national final there in 2014

This may come as a surprise to you, but clubs aren't exactly queuing up to host GUI events, it's not as prestigious as one may think, in most cases it viewed as more hassle that its worth.
Although personally I say fair play to those clubs who consistently make their courses available, I also think there should be a rota system in place, that way everyone gets to host an event and no club can dodge their responsibility.

You were the one slaggingoff NCW for winning the pierce purcell having won out the weekend in Tralee, a links course and us coming from a parkland course bearing two links teams on our journey !! I smell a touch of sour grapes !!

On the Sunday Muskerry lost to blarney in the morning, if you were playing you'd never forget it or even if you we're there you should remember

Everyone were out in winter gear 12 over was a winning score so the wind was obviously too much of a factor

    As for a national final
Anything is possible after seeing kinsale chosen

I was at it alright on the Sunday but can't remember the weather. But I can hardly remember what happened last week so no surprise I can't remember that :)
The wind is always pretty strong there, CSS has been known to go as far as 74 (par 70) when it's been really howling
