Wedding Present: - what to get myself??

So somehow I managed to convince (or trick -I'm not sure yet) my better half that I need a new bicycle and that getting married is a great excuse since you won't really notice that extra expense tacked on the end :D Plus she'll get use of my current roadlite so may even get her more into it then the crappy bike she has now...

So anyway after looking at what's available here in NZ I've decided to stick with Canyon, get it delivered to Ireland and pick it up when back to get married and get some use out of it over the couple of weeks and bring it back home.

been looking at both the ultimate cf 9 pro and aerod cf 7 sl, both pretty much same price, both carbon and apart from minor frame differences it seems to come down to pretty much Sram vs Campagnolo.
any help with which is better; thoughts, opinions etc. Only starting to ponder this so haven't done too much reading into it as yet

the best I've done in NZ is the Pinarello FP Quattro 55 (56tt) Ultegra for 4800 NZD or about 3100 eur, a bit too much for my liking and more expensive anyway

    Getting married, you say...

Maybe time to think of the children.

I'm sorry the advice isn't useful but the thread-bump may help.

Don't buy a bike as a wedding present to yourself (or from her). Get yourself something with more sentimental value like a nice watch. You'll get the bike eventually (everyone does ;)) but you'll spend a lot on a watch only once or twice in your lifetime.

wow a watch, how sentimental... not

I see no reason to waste money like that on something I don't want or won't use so why not get something I'll actually enjoy and use and get fitter and healthier from?

I said like a watch. You spend your money on whatever you like, I just think you end up getting a nice bike anyway and should go for something that befits this momentous occasion.

Congrats on getting married cookie! I hope the missus is getting something in addition to the hand-me-down roadlite while you get the shiny new toy, or she'll not be a happy honey not matter how much she smiles. I'd say flog the current roadlite and get a pair of his & hers new bikes, or maybe even an extended cycling honeymoon on two wheels.

Given you're talking about doing a 430k, maybe something in grey rather than black would be appropriate attire for the big day.

Getting married myself at the end of the year, my missus says I can bring a bike on honeymoon but not to the wedding day, in case I get lost, have a puncture or just don't turn up. I had a great idea where i buy a Cargo bike and transport her from the ceremony to the hotel but apparently this was not a go.

    Wedding present suggestions are welcome.

Also congrats Cookie_monster, hope it goes well, +1 on the kids, there are enough of them and only one of me :D

I was forbidden by the bride to cycle to the wedding when I was best man for a mate, even though I promised to wear trouser clips. She was, likewise, afraid I'd puncture, get lost, and/or be late.

I didn't crack any jokes when the car we used instead broke down and got lost on the way to the house, and we got there only just in time! :p

This is the best idea - you want your OH/ wife! to get more into cycling, so a decent set of wheels for each other enabling you both to ride off into the sunset together is v romantic.

quick off topic - smacl, that Harrogate bike shop in your link where I'm from! Going this wknd in fact so if you've been perving at anything (small), I could pick it up let me know by pm.

No, you heard her saying one thing & your brain translated it into something else: what she said was: 'you can do loads of riding on the honeymoon but not on the wedding day'
You probably missed the >> ;) aswell :pac:

Seriously tho, congrats to you both and choose wisely.

Incedently her father is insisting we cycle down to the venue the morning of the wedding so i've already pencilled in a 50km or so route, happy days!

So anyway the differences between the two bikes in the op...

Well i dont think i could spend too much more anway just yet, i'm not that mad. But we could start to build our house instead which means i would have more space to put bikes...

Many thanks for that, but unfortunately what I'm after in that shop, like most anything else I perve at, is nether small nor cheap, and would doubtless upset my good lady if brought into the family home.

this thread makes me grateful my OH is equally into cycling and we don't have to think about spending money on children :)

I love how some men get presents from there wives that will occupy them more with the present rather than the OH:P
