I know there are a few threads already on here about this topic, although I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on wither or not I understand exactly what this qualification gives you.

I currently have a FETAC Level 5 in Applied Psychology and Social Studies, and I am in the process of acquiring a BA in Psychology level 8.

Now, I am due to start the Train the trainer course and I am just wondering - does this entitle me to teach the level 5 modules I have completed?

Do I need further qualifications to do so?

What are the prospects of gaining employment?

Sorry, but IME you would not be able to teach Level 5 if thats the highest qualification you have. It used to be that FAS required trainers to have the train the trainer cert, but it's no longer considered sufficient.

Sorry, I meant to say when I finish my degree. Would I then? Or are there more qualifications I would have to acquire?

    hi,

From 1 April 2013 you will need a 'teacher education qualification' to teach at Further Education Colleges / VECs ( Level 5 and level 6). See teaching council website for full details here . The train the trainer isn't sufficient. Up to now this wasn't officially required. (Though most people had combination of Degree / Masters / Industrial experience / Teaching Qualification / Teaching experience)

For Fas training courses I am not 100% sure, but is changing as it is going under the SOLAS organisation.

For Private colleges/ bodies offering level 5/6 I think its unlikely you would get hours with a degree and trainer the trainer.

    thanks

Many of my training colleagues in Impact Training and Fas have undergraduate degrees along with Train the Trainer. So you should be able to get work.
