Near miss in front of two guards

I had a near miss today. Car ran a stop sign and we nearly had a head on collision. Luckily I was going slow and I hit the breaks. The other driver waved an apology and we went on our merry way.

There were two guards on pedal bikes about 30m away cycling towards me who saw the incident and then completely ignored it. Was it too much of me to expect maybe they might say something to the other driver? They were cycling very leisurely so I don't they were otherwise preoccupied.

This is not meant to be a garda bashing thread. I have a huge amount of respect for the Guards. This whole incident just annoyed me

Mistakes happen when people arent doing what they are supposed to do. If there is a stop sign stop. Very simple.

I recognise that, and I'm sure his intention when he got up this morning was not to cause a car accident. I didn't want the guy to be prosecuted for dangerous driving. I just thought a quick chat from a guard about how it's important to stop at stop signs would achieve a lot.

It would seem reasonable that the Guards would issue a fixed penalty or penalty points. Did you call them over/alert them?
I have found the guys on the beat often have no interest in minor traffic violations (not making light of your near miss) But are there to be a visible presence on the streets rather than be tied up with incidents for long periods (rightly or wrongly).

I didn't alert them, I thought maybe they would say something to him as they were cycling in the same direction as him but they kept going. I agree it was only a minor offence though. The collision, if it had occured would barely have been at 20km/hr. It was just so blatantly obvious what had happened

Running the stop sign when there is traffic on the major road is not a "minor traffic violation".
It's one of the most serious traffic violations.

Doing 86km/h on 80km/h is a minor traffic violation, but for this one gards love to issue fixed penalty notices and points.

Every offence which nearly leads to accident, can't be minor traffic violation IMHO.

Agreed that is why I said

    I misunderstood your post then.
    Sorry

Gerdee would make a great troll name.:D

The guards on the bike weren't TC so not their problem.

If it had of been young lads in a civic that ran the stop sign and never even noticed you then they might have done something.
