Told Cavity Walls don't qualify for SEAI Grant

    Hi,

I got a company to quote me for insulating my house last week.

The guy who did the quote for me said they could insulate both the both the cavity walls and the attic. However, he said the walls would not qualify for the SEAI grant because of some type of insulation that was put in the walls when the houses were built 25 years ago.

Has anyone else had this issue? I have searched the SEAI website and I cannot see anything that says some cavity walls do not qualify.

I don't understand why the work wouldn't qualify for the grant if the work is being done to insulate them.

Would it be worth asking the the "guy" rather than trying to second guess? Might save you a lot of time. If he does not know maybe it is not correct?

The reason I was asking here was because this guy quoted me the price net of the grant (he said he would look after all the grant applications etc and I would just pay him the net amount). You can see why I might be suspicious of an arrangement like that - how do I know that the grant will not be claimed anyway?

It just seems strange to me that he said the insulation work on the wall can be done but there is no grant for it.

I've 2 more companies calling to me later this week to give me quotes - if they don't mention anything about the walls not qualifying for a grant, then I will have my answer I suppose!!

That you will, then you should name and shame the other company if they are trying to pull a fast one :D
