    Hi everyone
Doing a school project at the moment and any help would be great
Basically I would like to know how much a race would cost to sponsor whether it be a €10,000 race in Dundalk or somewhere or any of the big races during the year. e.g Irish Derby.
Also I would link to know what it would cost for a horse racing festival e.g Guinness sponsor Listowel festival or Ethihad sponsor the Guineas meeting
Also do you think such sponsorship packages in racing are value for money??

If anyone had any links related to this it would be fabulous.

    Thanks Again :)

Not sure about the major races but I used to work for a company that sponsored a mediocre maiden hurdle in Down Royal. They had to put up half the prize money

I'd e-mail Irishracing.com or the Irish Firld and ask if I was you

most sponsors put in half the prize money of a race
unless its a big sponsor well then they'd normal go full prizes (this is mainly in the bigger races like ascot etc...)
a horse racing festiveal could cost millions , ya have to remember some people will big big money
but if your not including payouts
well then take into consideration , food, drink, staff wages, stables workers, on the track workers, ambulance crew, pretty much everything you see at the races costs money to be their.
on the up side they make all their money back + 100times more :D
i honestly couldnt put a figure to it , go on william hill send in an email they could probably help

to the 3rd question : course they are, their would be no sponsors in racing if they didnt get value for giving away money
you'd often see paddy powers sponsors on most tracks
just walk into a paddy powers, you can tell from the 40 people shouting at the screen that paddy is getting his money :L

Lads I think ye are way off the mark here. I sponsored two bumpers at Leopardstown Christmas meeting in 2010 for the princely amount of €1,500. It just gets added on top of the exisitng prize. they were two €10k races. The minimum HRI will allow is €500. Take a look at the attached for last Fridays meeting in Dundalk

Now look at the 2011 HRI stats

6% of prizemoney comes from sponsorship. In 2011 the Curragh had €7.8 million in prizemoney and only €600k came from sponsors (including all six classics). The Derby gets its prizemoney from owner entries. Sponsors wouldn't be putting more than €100k into it. In general, you could get a decent days racing (like the Hennessey or the old Ladbroke) for €20-30k.

Personally, like most marketing, it needs to be hitting your target audience but if it does a branded day is of huge benefit. Take the Budweiser Derby or the Hennessey Gold Cup. It's like the Heineken Cup. It builds huge brand awareness. Only they can tell you if its good value for money. Why don't you ring Leopardstown and give them background. Or ring Hennessey marketing team. Marketing people normally love to talk.

You could try contacting HRI to see if they could help you. They have a specific page re. race sponsorship on their website: http://www.goracing.ie/HRI/Get-Involved/Sponsorship-Opportunities/
