Domicillary Care Allowance

My son is on the Autistic Spectrum and finally after 10 months, we were approved by the Social Welfare Appeals Office for the award of Domicillary Care Allowance. :)

I suppose I have 2 questions in relation to this:

    1. How long does payment normally take to come through once the appeal has been allowed?

    2. Is the allowance payable from the date the appeal is upheld or the original date of receipt of the application back in December?

Any help would be most appreciated!

It should be paid back to the 1st day of application!
I don't know how long it will take to get it, but hopefully not long. You will also get the respite care grant in with the arrears :)

If you are within the means test for carers allowance, apply straight away, as its only backdated to the date of carers application. If you are within the means test, you will get the carers. It takes a long time, but there's no medical questions as its linked to DCA

Good luck with it, it will take close to a year for the carers to be sorted, but it will come in the end....lol

I would also recommend that you keep all medical and educational reports that you get from now on.

You will need them when the DCA is reviewed, or when the child needs to apply for disability in his/her own right (currently at age 16).

Also see if you can apply for the respite care grant for this year - not sure if you can or not, so you should apply.
