Hi all. My daughter is starting placement at st mary's in the park soon and i'm just wondering how safe is it for her to be walking to the bus at 7-9pm at night?

unfortunately she'll have to get the bus at least once a week. bit worried about the safety walking through that part of the park at night?

any help would be really appreciated. thanks.

    hi,

i few of my friends did placements in marys in the park and as far as i know they have a mini bus which if you ask nicely will pick students up from the main gate in the morning and drop them back out to the main gate in the evening

also if she is in first year she will be let out much earlier then 8pm, in a care of the elderly placemnt i have not heard of anyone who stayed that late!

thanks so much, i'll ring them in the morning and ask about the bus. she's a bit worried herself.

    she's a second year.

even second year she will be let out early... care of the elderly is a bit of a joke of a placement!

Speaking as a student about to go out on placement I can safely say it would be alot better for your daughter to ring herself. As a second year in college about to go out on placement she should be able to do this, otherwise it might leave the placement with a bit of an immature impression of your daughter. I am only speaking from the advice we have been given in pre-placement talks.

ok thanks i'll tell her to do that. the only reason i was ringing is because she's in placement all week so busy..... but i will get her to do it. thanks.

I completed a placement there last April. The bus stops running at 7 and speaking from experience I wasnt let out before my finish time once.. it all depends on the ward. Are there any other students on with her that would drop her to the gate or be walking too because usually a group of 6/8 start together! :D

The walk to the Chapelizod gate is very short. Run in there at that time regularly, Still plenty of runners, cyclists, dog walkers and deer around at that time and up until 8:30ish. It is perfectly safe, if she walks down the pathway through the grass it'll be more open and no trees for anyone suspicious to lurk. I suspect there'd be a few people finishing up shifts at around the same time anyway so she wouldn't be the only one walking out in the dark.

There's also a rangers house at the Chapelizod gate if she feels unsafe it's somewhere to go.
