Speed Cameras on M1

Has anyone actually seen Garda Speed Cameras or a garda Van or been stung on the M1?

I drive that route quite regularly, and see posted speed limits of 60kph along the motorway with copious warning signs of speed camera, and NEVER see anyone actually adhering to the speed limit. Is this in place because of the road works that are going on?
Even on the other end closer to Town / Santry where the road works are not going on there is a limit of only 100 kph or 80 .. no one (from what I| can see adheres to it either) ....

Mod: Not advocating breking speed limit, lawlessness, anarchy, or anything sle :P just curios as to what the sotry is. Neewbie_Noob

Yes, I have seen them quite often.
    been stung on the M1?
No, I only ever stray a tiny bit above the limit along this stretch.

    Yes.

Yes OP, if you see them dubious white vans with "Garda" written on the side, chances are they have done you already, its one place I always slow down, they are usually on one side or both, going north, just before the donabate slip after swords, and going south, just after crossing the bridge from the Donabate slip.... amount of flashes I have seen with people getting done....

Where there are roadworks on a road and temporary speed signs are erected that are different to the 'ordinary' speed limit.
Does the county council not have to pass a bye law in order to change the posted speed limit.
Was there not a case before where all speeding tickets that were issued were dismissed out of court as the temporary signs had been erected at roadworks but no bye law had been passed thus the ordinary speed limit was still the legal limit.

    MODS:
    Not advocating speeding.

Really? There are large signs at the side of the road warning that speed cameras are in operation when you enter into the reduced speed zone. They even have warnings on the overhead displays warning that speed limits are being ACTIVELY enforced. Short of them putting flashing red lights on the van, I don't see how they could possibly give any more warning to people.

I drive through that section most days and haven't notice any cameras. I have noticed a new lay-by at the end of the M1 just at the bridge crossing to santry-beaumont though. It's had a gatso van parked there a few times. Easy to spot if you keep your eyes open. It's better than the old spot which was just after the port tunnel and they would park it so it was mostly hidden by a wall. At least in the new spot you see it and drop your speed coming into a built up area rather than get notification of a fine a few weeks later.

Yes. Usually between Drogheda and Dundalk. Once saw them in an unmarked Mondeo, gun out the window, just in the dip after the Ardee off ramp heading north. Very sneaky.

They are often just before the Dundalk north exit in a cutout, checking traffic heading south

Tallonstown off ramp is another common one, either direction

Saw them in a marked car on the straight between Ardee hai and Dunleer once

Saw them one Friday evening at the rodworks, I was watching out though I was within the limit, big beemer passed me out right in front of them though!!:D

I also saw them just before exit 13 northbound, 2 cops with a speed gun just around a corner where you wouldn't spot them if in overtaking lane, which I was. I was also doing a fairly big speed but luckily they didn't follow me.

I passed the roadworks heading Southbound on the weekend, tried to get the speed down to 60, but the traffic coming the slip road were going faster than my 63, nearly caused an accident.

Strangest location: Speed gun set up on the tolls heading Southbound, catching anyone speeding through the express lane

Anyone know when the M1 roadworks are due to be completed?

The M1 widening to be finished "late 2012", and works at Donabate exit are supposedly to be finished in February 2013.

Only a Road Works Speed Limit Order is required, signed by a manager.

I mean sneaky in the sense that they aren't immediately noticeable so people can't slam on the breaks.
    Not advisable on a motorway.

I could be wrong but it seems to me as if the work is being dragged out...I drive the M1 every morning. Quite a lot of lads in hi-vis jackets standing around with their hands in their pockets..Hurry up yez pricks we all need to get to work in a normal rate of time :)

There have been a few posts about drivers getting fined for speeding on the M1 roadworks, for that reason I drive at the limit along that stretch.

I was on that road at 5:30am t'other morning driving at the indicated 60km/h on that stretch - ok 65 I was pushing it.

How I am still alive I do not know. I was being passed at 120km/h+.

It should be an 80 limit. 60 is just plain stoopid - no need for it.

Big speed differentials between cars in adjoining lanes is murderously dangerous.

The unreasonable 60 speed limit along that stretch is causing big speed differentials between cars in adjoining lanes, it will not end well for someone.

I totally agree, it is physically impossible to keep at 60 when you have cars coming down the slip road and on the outer lane traveling at speed, thankfully there wasn't an accident but I could see one happening quite easily.

    ....and still we wait....
The last I heard was they might be finished by the end of May.
Can't see it somehow, doesn't seem to be anything happening lately!

I love a bit of speed but on that stretch I always hover at the limit annoying all the cars behind me who want to drive at 80 in the 60 zone, I think its too easy to get caught out there and all the other cars doing 80 really makes a person feel super slow doing 60.
