Only 22 countries in the world have never been invaded by Britain, according to new research.

The news prompted Twitter users to warn Luxembourg, Guatamala and others that their turn may be due.

The earliest recorded invasion was of Gaul in the second century, according to a book by Stuart Laycock.

    The uninvaded are:

    Andorra
    Belarus
    Bolivia
    Burundi
    Central African Republic
    Chad
    Congo, Republic of
    Guatemala
    Ivory Coast
    Kyrgyzstan
    Liechtenstein
    Luxembourg
    Mali
    Marshall Islands
    Monaco
    Mongolia
    Paraguay
    Sao Tome and Principe
    Sweden
    Tajikistan
    Uzbekistan
    Vatican City

Think it was the Kingdom of Mercia that invaded Gaul in the 2nd century and if we're going to conflate the actions of a people that happened to occupy the geographical area of a modern state 2000 years ago, then I want to know when is the Irish State going to pay reparations to the UK for the genocidal invasion of the Picts?

Aye but Norway and Denmark deserved it for the Viking raids

Iceland was in 1940, to prevent the Germans doing so first. They were later 'relieved' by the Americans who still maintain a base there, I think.
France got invaded the most times by Britain, Ireland the longest (843 years and counting.)

'Invade' has a fairly specific meaning tbh. In most cases they hid their weapons so were just on holiday.

England must have been grim back then for all the people to want to join the army to go and fight in other places. Anywhere was better it seems.

One third of the army who fought Napolean was Irish

Sure the Duke of Wellington himself was Irish

The Royal Navy made good use of impressment.

The English are laughed at....you bit off more than you could chew with the Irish. An island so much smaller then your own and you couldn't defeat us.....and now your stuck with 6 counties you struggle to afford. Not so 'great' after all, are you!

You can add Ireland to that list, we were invaded (by request) by the Normans who by then had conquered Britain, but sure I suppose some inadequate people need someone to hate!

Up to a third of the British army were usually Irish so I think that comment says more about the state of this country under British rule.

Actually a few of those nations on that list they have also been at war with as they were part of the Russian Empire so as soon as that nation was attacked they were all attacked.

50,000 peole every year are leaving Ireland, so what does that say about the state of this country since Independence?

Yep it was just Britain, if you look into the history really carefully you'll see that the USSR and America etc. weren't even involved with the allies... it was just made up:pac:

Says they must be doing well if they can afford the flights out of the country out of their own pockets...no need for chain migration these days no siree:pac:

Yeah but during battle of Britain period USSR had no impact on western front and US were still not at war so Britain literally was only defence.

The BOB wasn't fought to protect the Irish, it was fought to save their own skins...the fact we avoided possibly being invaded due to a British victory was secondary to that

At least Paddy Finucane wasn't being narrow-minded when he took part.

Battle of Britain 1940, France was already invaded, Hitler hadn't yet invaded Russia, and America hadn't joined the War, so, yes, Britain was the only country that stood between Ireland and the Nazis (not that the Nazis would have bothered with us, they had enough on their plate)

An opinion which differs from your own= narrow minded..gotcha:)

I've nothing against the British but they didn't save us from the Axis powers, they didn't even save themselves, they won the BOB due to the ineptitude of the Germans in pressing home their advantage.

Yeah... imagine invading industrial countries where they had rifles. Sure anyone with a bit of sense and go off and find a place where they've bows and arrows or maybe a few muskets.

I think you will find that Poland and the Polish Airforce, plus the Free French also contributed enormously during 1940 and 1941.
