    Hi i-ve been looking at buying my first classic car,funds arent great so have been looking for something for under 2.5K and this popped up, http://www.driving.ie/used-cars/BMW/3-Series/316-BAUR/20413413388540660/ ,I dont know much about these cars and any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated,also would regular 3 series parts be compatible?

    You could do a lot worse. Just be sure that it's regd and NCT'd at that price. Being a garage he can do both.If all's in order then it seems ok, straightforward car, check BMW UK forums for advice.

    I had one and loved it. Can be a bit tail happy at times but that adds to the fun. They are prone to blowing a head gasket (mine went) and I also had to replace the failing automatic choke with a manual one. They also like to rust, especially the boot floor and under the side windows. Good cars but find the best you can.

    I should have added above that all the mechanical and body parts are the same as a normal e21 except for the cabriolet conversion ie. hood, roof etc.
    Also you should budget 1000e approx to recover the seats.
    That car has the sport steering wheel which was an option.
