Saorview/Freesat combo box?

The tvtrade link includes a "list of channels" tab. Just check that.

None of those combos are Freesat boxes: Freesat is a brandname licenced for specific receivers that include a 7 day epg & interactive services (red button).

It's a Saorview / FTA satellite combo (not Freesat)
It will receive Saorview (and NI DTT channels if you are in range of NI / Welsh transmitters) and any fta satellite channels it can receive, but no Freesat epg.

    Ah, thanks - not great.

Another question, then: is there any way to run a Saorview box and a Freesat box on the same TV? If so, how does it work - do you switch from one to another the way you do between a DVD box and the Freesat box?

In exactly the same way, your tv just sees it as another source

Can you get a Saorview and Freesat box?

Ah, that's brilliant, answered my question perfectly, excollier.

Freesat doesn't get you any extra channels, if that's what you're thinking.

It just gets (mostly) useful channels in a much more useable / informative way.

    yes
but at present the only box that does well is about €300

far more expensive than a Freesat box and Saorview box each with their separate EPG's.

5 EPG's out there depending on your hardware and location
without a firmware hack the best you can get is pressing a series of commands on a few devices to toggle mode to see the other epg (unless you are lucky enough to get UK and Ire on aerial - other channels end up at 800)

Freeview ( UK TV - geographical limits )
    Saorview ( Irish TV )
Saorsat ( different satellite - different lnb )
Freesat ( BBC / ITV proprietary hardware specific )
SKY ( proprietary hardware specific inc. 'freesat from sky')

I have Freesat and it has a lot more channels than are on that list - everything from Film 4 to E4 and BBC1,2,3,4,HD, to ITV, to Al-Jazeera, CNN, a dozen other news channels, etc, etc.

Anything you get on Freesat, you can get with a FTA receiver, along with channels not on the Freesat epg (most Freesat receivers have to go into non-Freesat mode to access these).

The channel lists you looked at are probably incomplete or out of date.

    better list here http://www.tvtrade.ie/combined-satellite-and-dtt-receiver-box-channel-listings.html

the previos link was to 'sample' list of channel graphic. More complete list below this graphic on that page. There are other channels available too but that's just roughly what you would get on any combo receiver

Apologies for hijacking this thread but didn't want to start a new one... Newbie question coming up!

I currently have pre-wired UPC that was there when I moved into my hosue. No aerial, satellite etc... does this mean, if I get rid of my UPC, can I use one of these boxes or do I need an aerial? Thanks alot...

A combi receiver uses a feed from a satellite dish for (usually, but not limited to) UK channels & a terrestrial aerial for Irish channels. Some parts of the country also have terrestrial reception of UK channels.

I'm sorry, you'll have to dumb that down a bit for me :o

Are you saying if I get rid of my UPC, I can plug one of these boxes into the UPC 'cable' and it will work?

It won't work with the UPC cable.

    Thanks Peter...

Can you recommend a reputable company to install all of the above (cable, combi box - possibly in multiple rooms - etc)? Dublin area...

You should also consider the Ferguson Ariva 250. Same idea, more features and the one remote control can also control other devices as well (your TV, amp etc)

    http://satellite.ie/acatalog/Ariva-250-combo.html

They do installs as well. (Tony the owner posts here constantly).

Big thread on these boxes in the terrestrial forum.
