This story is almost two years old , had intended to print on the day , but put on long finger.

I was flying out of Dublin at the last terminal ,like 117 or so( end of the block )
Was using the pay as you go computer and then went on Board. when on board i realised I had left my phone by the computer. Pulled out my bag a to get a foreign phone i had , switched it on (seemed like an age) and rang my lost phone. it was answered by a joe cool tpye, laid back , an airport employee.
yes he had it (ok, obviously ) told him which flight i was on .
will cost you a drink, he said . i walked to the door ,explained what i was up to to the stewardess.
Here comes Joe Cool sauntering over , my phone in his hand . i had a score ready in my hand for him, no way he said, luckily I had a tenner to hand , still no way, enjoy your trip, he said.
    stewardess smiled . All OK

A real Knight of the Road, he was.

hardly worth a new thread, but maybe some of ye guys know him,
    Regards Rugbyman

The DAA staff are good so no surprise in hearing a tale like this. I'd imagine identifying him however might be a bit of a challenge. Earlier this year I had flight to STN for work and I was flying onwards to Billund to hang out with some friends for a few days. The day before I got all my money changed to both currencies but ended up in a mad rush to leave the house and forgot the envelope. Long story short one of the ASU guys offered to meet my other half at the entrance to security and get it delivered down to me at the gate at pier D with minutes to go before boarding ended. I know the guy to see from going through the staff security but I wouldn't hesitate to say that he'd have done it for any passenger. If there is one thing you can say about the DAA is that the DO invest in their people and customer service and its always a good experience using Dublin Airport. The small things make all the difference.

    Hi there
A lot of things like this happen every day from lots of airport staff, regardless of who they work for. In my job, we routinely find lost items on the aircraft and bring them up to Lost Property. We also are regularly stopped, inside the Terminals, by people seeking directions. If the DAA spent a few quid on decent signage, we'd have to do it less often.

It was me, I'll take the €20 now as I've had time to think about it :D

Seriously though as said by Stovepipe it happens daily in the airport, most of the people I work with would do similar good deeds as its sort of part of the job in Dublin airport.

On a lighter note, I once got asked a question mid pee in the public toilets.. My own fault for wearing my hi-viz around passengers I suppose.

absoultly it happens to me too and has for the last 12 years haha, people who need help will just see a lanyard or a hi-vis and ask I am well used to it so no problem with it at all. When I travel through as a passenger I find everyone who I deal with at the airport from shops to bars, ASU people the Airport Police indeed all staff are genuinly great like that. I think there will be a few more Airport workers on here that might agree that it's always been very much like that in my time and what makes it a really nice place to work in and a good overall experience when using it as a passanger too.

I've always enjoyed when people approached me. Livens up the day a bit too. What makes me laugh is eg there's a delay on a flight even if I worked in some random airport dept eg the loop they'd start asking what I'll YOU do about it :D

I think most people at Airports are sound, I was leaving Bournemouth for Dublin on Ryanair, checked hand luggage through security and was boarding when I realised the car keys were not in my pocket, spoke to guy at the aircraft door who allowed me to return to where I had put my luggage through the scanner, told the guy I was sitting at a restaurant having a cup of tea which was where I last saw them, allowed to go back to look with no joy, came back to security when the guy at the scanner said bring your luggage through the scanner again and I will take a good look, surprise surprise there were the keys in my small case showing on the screen had slipped in when getting tickets or what ever , guys were great help that day.

All true. Generally, airport staff are helpful and will often go well outside the scope of their duties to help, unless the punter starts acting the fool or gets shouty. That kind of goodwill is worth it's weight in gold and often has nothing whatsoever to do with the company you work for. I've also noticed that it's often in direct proportion to how well management treats it's workforce.

I think the thread title should be changed...I suggest something simple like

    "Airport workers are rockstars" :D

A few years ago I bought a bottle of perfume (60 euro) in Dublin Airport to leave in my partner's flat in England. Forgot to unpack it and on the way back through Blackpool the female security officer said she'd have to take it from me. I didn't argue as it was my own fault but I did ask her could she not keep it for herself as I'd prefer HER to have it rather than have it dumped. She said she couldn't, then she hesitated and told me to write down my name and address and she'd post it to me. 3 days later I got my perfume in my house in Dublin....couldn't believe it. Never saw her again though I looked out for her each time I passed through Backpool. It still makes me smile to think of it.

I totally agree ... and if you ever want to know what an airport staffed by surly, disinterested, obnoxious and arrogant people would be like, check out CDG. I rarely use it, and dread it every time.
