    2. Would u prefer to be quoted for whole job or per day price?
    3. How much in ur opinion painting of one average room should cost ( including paint)
    4. Would u hire uninsured and unregistered painter?
    5. Would u pay a little bit more for painting job knowing that good quality materials are used?

The rate of pay for a qualified painter according to the union is about €550 per week after tax. For a sole trader who is insured and paying tax on all his jobs as well as paying for his own van and tools he'd need to be charging about €180 plus vat to earn that.
Due to our current slump as a country and the lack of job opportunities there are thousands of non qualified painters offering to work for €80 a day. They are not insured, paying tax or even declaring that they're employed. They're ex-builders, brickies, sparks and other ppl on the dole trying to do what they can to provide for themselves and most of the time their family too.
So whats the solution. The proper, qualified painters who have 10 to 20 years experience now have to lower their prices to compete with these lads.
You'd think ppl would know they have to pay to get quality but the problem is that sone of the qualified painters are also working in the red for €80 a day so some ppl can get a pro for that price.
Most pro painters I know wouldn't work for €80 a day but would prob take €100 plus their scratch.
How can a legit painter even try to charge a fair price??

really like ur post DublinDIYguy, i think the only way for legit painters is try to get some commercial work where u need insurance cert and customer will ask for invoice! as long as people will keep hiring tradesmen working and claiming benefits legit small businesses will have hard to survive!!!

And so the thread slips into a bit of a farce of putting down anyone who charges a cheaper rate, just to get some work comming in....(what the hell was the point of having a pole,if you just wanted and intended to use this thread to bitch away for an alterior motive).

Oh and what the hell as social wellfare or benifits got to do with the thread??????

Nothing.......you are now just throwing in extra things for the sake of bitching on and on.Oh and you are stereotyping every trades person in the process too.....WELL DONE INDEED.:rolleyes:

And so on that note I,ll leave you to it and let you continue this farce of a thread and bitch and complain on some more too,

    Enjoy your stereotyping,bitching and complaining.

Keep this on thread. Last 3 posts have nothing to so with the question asked. No more warnings only bans.

Just to clarify Paddy, are the prices in your link, your answer to what a fair price is?
