Just got 24packs of 12mm laminate flooring for a bargain yesterday and Hubbie wants to lay this himself. He hasnt a clue. He bought a Jigsaw in B&Q sale. He fully intends to lay this himself but never has as much put a nail in wall before!
    Any advice please???
At the minute he is painting the room, has the packs stacked up in the room with the underlay. thanks in advance for any advice or tips!

Its not as difficult as you would think. If he does a bit of research, youtubing etc its a simple job. If he could borrow a good chop saw it would make his life a lot easier and neater but not totally necessary.

Chopsaw,a carpet kicker and rubber mallet.

Did hubby also get wooden profile trim in the same colour as the laminate floor to go around where laminate floor meets up to skirting board??;):)

Tell him to buy the B&Q DVD on laying laminate floors or watch : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFyb1VrlelQ

Lots of info out there if you Google it.

many thanks for all the advice. yes we started it, half it done now and it is looking very good. yes we left the 10mm room for expansion around the room. The Bosch jigsaw that he bought is marvellous! Although it took a little while to get started, the help from youtube was a life saviour. Yes we got the beading/trim lengths in B&Q, all set to finish tomorrow. Cheers everyone!

My tip is to mark the top of the boards and use the jigsaw upside down to cut them. If at all possible I recommend borrowing a laminate cutter instead of using power tools to do the easy "end of run" cuts.

I only use a jigsaw for angles and radiator pipes etc. (which you need a hole saw for as well really).

Some people also forget that "click together" still needs to be tapped together and as soon as the floor is down, start incorporating a sealant into your cleaning regime, so the cracks are gradually made more and more waterproof in case of spillages (which would otherwise potentially ruin a nice floor and require you to lift it to replace a couple of boards)

Other tip: always keep about 1 pack spare for future repairs! The stuff may go out of production and then you're snookered.
