...not to bitch or moan or anything........but the S.O. was cleaning out the car today, and found a widget wedged under the driver's seat.

Or, to be more accurate, what turned out to be a 4Gb USB key, with a gazillion photo's thereon...........nothing nefarious there either, but a lot of what seems everything from a kids christening to holidays etc. All domestic stuff.

As someone who's had all their digital stuff taken, I know I'd like to have mine returned to me....

So, I thought the new VLC's had the previous owner details, a la V5's in the UK....but alas, not.

So, any legit way to access previous owner via reg ?

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

true, but they will not give you any details.......they'll cite data protection blah blah blah ....

Where did you buy the car? If from a garage they will have it on file who traded it in, they could possibly act as a middleman to inform previous owner and if they agreed pass their contact details to you. If from a private sale contact your phone company for records of calls you made on that date to get previous owners number.

Yes, garage, but no service history, so nothing to work off. I'll give them a buzz tomorrow....

I know Shannon and AGS aren't channels that can be used by Joe Citizen, so working on finding an alternative.

You could post a couple of pictures up on boards, might be able to track it down from that. If there's a christening, someone might recognize the church or something. It'll be like where in the world is...

A divorce lawyer may disagree there.

You could post on owners clubs/forums to see if anyone on it recognises the car and therefore would know if the previous owner was active on the site. Then you can PM them and if they aren't active on the forum they will get an email about the PM.

They Garda can contact the previous owner if it's dropped in. My Mother found a wallet outsidemy place, there where no contact details in it but some cards. Dropped it into my local cop shop and they contacted the owner. Turned out it was my postman and he got my Mother some flowers.

They shouldn't hand over the details of the previous owner, but can contact them for lost and found issues.

Your best chance is with the garage you bought it off of, assuming the car was traded in there by the previous owner. The data protection laws would generally prohibit the garage and Shannon from disclosing previous owner personal information such as name and address but if the garage have their details on file from the trade-in then they could probably contact them and pass on the flash drive to them if they want it back.
