in semi it only does a a half cycle? if you pull the trigger again does it fire one shot?

No on semi the trigger only comes back halfway so it isn't even able to do a half cycle:mad:

if you give it a short burst on auto and then select semi does it work ok?

For about 2 shots it works then begins to get stuck again I think it might be to do with the selector plate spring not being in place properly

The G&G motors are pretty poor, to be honest, so I'd point the finger at that first and foremost.

Before replacing the motor just separate the receivers and liberally spray silicone oil between selector plate and lower receiver. Sometimes the body grips the selector plate, and doesn't let go resulting in issues such as the ones you've mentioned.

I'd still sooner say it was the motor though

Thanks a million for all the help really appreciate it I'll be getting a new motor as soon as possible but would the g&g gearbox be able to withstand a high torque motor?

yes it will be able to withstand it. however with the 1j limit generally your looking at a m90 spring or there abouts so a high torque is not really needed unless your looking for a really snappy trigger response.
personally i would go with a high speed motor and rewire it with a basic mofset and get the best of both worlds :D
