    Just curious.

A few years back I made a fullsize replica of the Dowlais sword at a weekend of bronze-working that was organised by Dave Chapman here at nearby Flag Fen in East Anglia.

I polished it using an old method - pine resin on a sheepskin, and then the sticky sheepskin dragged through river sand of finer and finer grades as the polish took on.

That took me three weeks of evenings.

    Facinating stuff!

I've wanted to do one of those courses with Dvid Chapman for ages. i just never seem to be free when they're on. There is an Irish group who do Bronze Age metallurgy stuff. Their website is pretty good.

P.S. Can I see the pic of the sword as well?

My PC has a géas preventing me from posting directly from it. If you pm me I'll email you the pics and you can put them up here...

I have two such swords - one is an unfinished but slightly cleaned-up version bought me by mrs tac as a gift, the following year she bought me the weekend to make another one. THAT is the one I completely finished with an oak grip.

I also have a short ridged dagger, but I did not make that.

Aplogies - I meant the DowRIS sword.

My wife is Welsh and that's MY excuse.

See page 135 of 'Pre-Christian Ireland' by Peter Harbison for a line drawing of the sword....

For some reason I am unable to post corrections to my text...also, I'm being told that my text is too short - the last one I posted had 231 characters....and this one is shorter, but got here.

    Hmmmmmm.
