Best way from Sallins to Finglas

Hi,

I am currently living in Sallins but am working in Finglas on the Tolka Valley road..

I currently get the train into Heuston, then get the Luas to oconnel street. Then I get the 40 or the 140 to finglas.

This current way I go can take anywhere up to an hour or more and is not the cheapest of routes.

I have looked into many other routes but can't find anything better.

I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about maybe stations on the sallins to Dublin line that might have buses to finglas or that area that may be better?

Not a whole lot of options - you pretty much have to use Heuston or get a Bus Éireann bus.

You might be able to save a small bit by only using buses, instead of Luas.

There are a variety of weekly/monthly/annual tickets available.

You could get the train to Clondalkin Fonthill Station then walk down to stop 2680 on the Fonthill Road to get the number 40 to Finglas.Bout a 15 min walk though I'd say, so probably as handy getting the train to Heuston.

I can't believe that anyone would suggest a bus that takes 40 minutes (plus a 15 minute walk) over staying on a train that takes 12 minutes to travel the same distance (and that is just to get to Heuston / James' St).

OP do not get off at Clondalkin/Fonthill.

There really are no easier options than your current one - that's a hell of a commute.

As Victor says you could save some money by using the bus instead of the LUAS.

Did you actually read my post?The OP was looking for another option to the route he's using now.I agree that the route I pointed out is not a great option,hence the bolded part above,but it's another option nonetheless.

It isn't an option full stop. The southern half of the 40 is one of the slowest bus routes in the city.

Well, inspired by that, one could get the train to Heuston, walk to James's Street and then get the 40.

That's what I was going to suggest Victor. Will cut out your luas fare at least. Traffic around Thomas street, dame street and o connell street may add a few minutes but not a lot I suspect.

OP, if you are driving to Sallins perhaps you could head up to Maynooth and get the train from there into Ashtown or Broombridge and walk from either station.
