My Flubit order, placed on Monday 15th, "should be dispatched on or before the 26th April".
Due to high volume of interest in the Nexus, Google currently have a backlog of these orders.

I would have thought Google should be on top of things by this point. The Nexus 4 was released in November, right?

Still waiting for mine to dispatch :( Ordered on the 4th, was told by David it would be dispatched at the start of this week. Have been in contact with flubit who have told me I'd get an update on it but no luck so far

I ordered mine on the 4th as well, it shipped Tues night, I'd suggest calling them tbh put a bit more pressure on them, if that doesn't work post it to their facebook page.

I sent a support email from my order page on flubit, asking for an update on my order. Got this automated email,

"You have submitted a support request. The below support request has been forwarded to the supplier responsible for your order. The supplier will get in touch with you as soon as possible. "

That mean they don't even look at my message and just automatically forward it to google?! I won't be holding my breath on a reply from them.

That the message everyone else got when contacting flubit?
You're better off making your inquiries here:
    https://fireworksmerchant.zendesk.com

Just register your email, open a ticket, and ask for an update on your specific order number. You'll get a human answer either this weekend or at the beginning of next week. Or, you could also ask on Facebook.

They actually replied to me not long after, so plus for them there.

Promising, but again not holding my breath

    16GB?

When Flubit say supplier, the term can be ambiguous. Sometimes they mean the actual supplier or sometimes it can be their supplier (Fireworks, which is part of Flubit). I think in your case that it was the latter.

Google need to get their act together. As already mentioned previously, too much reliance on technology to do the job of humans can affect customer service and it indeed has with Google. Look at Iggy, for example, he can't even get through a simple RMA because their automated system is canceling the replacement order over and over. I think they might need to be reported to the UK consumer body (The Office of Fair Trading?), for all the good it will do.

Nope, 8GB. Which has me a bit more disappointed, i was hoping the less popular one may have got through faster.

I'm gonna order a nexus 10 32gb next week through flubit. Is it likely to take as long to arrive as the nexus 4 is for a lot of you?

If you're in Dublin, you should call in to the Google building and crack the whip! I believe the orders are processed from there. :P

It's hard to know, it depends I suppose on how popular it is vs. the Nexus 4 and how Google's/Samsung's stock levels are. It could go either way. But you will get it if you order with Flubit, no doubt, and that's the most important thing.

I have a question for anyone in the know about batteries. Does the Nexus 4 have a Li-po or Li-ion battery? Some say theirs came with a Li-ion battery, presumably information obtained from an app reading the battery stats that doesn't know any better? I installed Battery Mix from Google Play and it said it was Li-ion.

My real concern is whether using my old ZTE Blade charger (that I also used on my I9000) would be a bad idea or not. So far I've just been charging with the USB cable and my PC but I just want to know if ever I'm stuck without the official charger, would it be a bad idea to use another one from a phone with a Li-ion battery, such as the ZTE Blade or the I9000, among others?

I absolutely know nothing about batteries so I apologize if I'm coming across as being paranoid/ignorant.

I'm afraid I'm not sure about the specific battery in nexus 4 but once your charger is micro usb it won't cause any problems. In my house we share chargers between nexus 10, nexus 4, galaxy nexus, s3 and galaxy s and never had any problems

The ZTE charger is a travel adapter like the Nexus 4 one but the specifications on the output are a tad different in terms of the amps. The LG one specifies 1.2A and the the ZTE one specifies 700mA. I think the other specifications are the same. I'm just not that knowledgeable about electrical currents to know if it's alright or not. Never had a problem charging my I9000 battery with it. My I9000 came from Spain so it had a two-pin charger so I just fecked that into a drawer and used my ZTE one.

Just got the offer from Flubit and placed the order. The Google Play order got cancelled (I had entered NI billing address for my ROI CC). Anyhows added my Dublin 11 PM address to Paypal and entered that as shipping address. Now wondering DOH!, should I have entered the NI PM address as shipping address. Sorry if this has been made clear/answered earlier, Noobee at this so apologies in advance.

Yep, just contact flubit & change it to the NI PM address if you have already paid through PayPal, otherwise add it as you go through payment.

The difference in mA output between different chargers only apply's in the length of time it takes to charge the device connected to it.

So lets say your charger had 1000mA output and your connected device had a 1000mA Battery, then it would take 1Hr to charge. If your charger had 500mA output and your connected device had a 1000mA Battery, then that would take 2Hrs to charge and so on.

I agree with most of this but I have experimented with a few chargers on my Nexus 4, I found the GS3 surprisingly does not charge it as quick as the LG one ( it says only connected by USB even though its connected in the mains) but the Nex 7 one does, and I have on old HTC Wildfire S that charger along with my kidigi dock thing charge them same speed as standard charger...

Only the GS3 charger seems to charge at PC(USB) speed...

Awesome! So long as there's no danger to the battery, well, no more danger than the imminent degradation of it, and so long as that degradation doesn't come much sooner as a result of using other chargers, then it's all good.

Thank you both for your answers. :)

Yep I have also found the USB cable to be a factor in this as well but in the basics of battery charging that is how it works .
For some devices you can have a 'feed back' channel of sorts that tell the charger to allow full charge rate but only if it knows the right device is connected. EG, I get a faster charge rate when I use the Nexus 7 USB cable and charger than say only the Nexus 7 charger and any random USB cable.

Also worth noting is batteries like to be charged slower more so than fast.

I guessed a slow charge will help preserve the battery's lifespan a little longer. But thanks for clearing up any doubts.

Out of curiosity, do you know if the batter is Li-po or Li-ion? I've skimmed over some online threads on the differences between the two and there's some conflicting information but all the same, I'm just curious about which type is in our Nexus 4s these days (you never know if LG originally went with Li-po and changed over to Li-ion in more recent models).

This pic shows an Li-ion polymer http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus+4+Teardown/11781/2

This vid also shows the same: http://cnettv.cnet.com/cracking-open-lg-nexus-4/9742-1_53-50140662.html

And this one also shows the same: http://www.anandtech.com/Gallery/Album/2435#2

so I would say its Li-ion polymer... unless for some reason it was changed.
I think people just put the wrong thing down on paper, like when you read "charge unit for 12 Hrs before use" but really those days are long gone.

Perfect! Thanks for that, I should have been able to find that myself, though. I didn't think to look for pictures of it. D'oh!

My replacement came nearly fully charged, in the late 90% range. I don't think the first one I got was fully charged but it was at a good 50%. The battery is doing grand so far. It does drain as normal when you're using it, naturally, but when the phone's asleep, even with that push notification fix that stops the filtering of multicast and broadcast traffic, I can go a night without so much as a 1% being lost. The first night I lost 2% but last night I put the phone down at 16% and woke up and it was at 16%. The reason for the lack of drain this time was maybe because I stuck Light Flow on a 1 hour time-out for all my notifications so the LED won't be blinking for too long unnecessarily.

Quick question, did your replacement N4 cone with the same 16gb or did you they cop on and ship the 8gb?

I think there was a communication breakdown between the departments at Flubit and Fireworks because when I was speaking to David in Fireworks on the phone within the hour after the phone broke, he confirmed that I had ordered the 16GB. So that's what they had replaced at Google, so my replacement was too a 16GB. I feel a bit...dishonest and like a thief. In my teenage years, about 10-15 years ago, I'd have been nearly guilt-free. But even so, I obviously didn't feel guilty enough to come clean when I called Fireworks about the RMA, either, which makes it worse. At the latter edge of my twenties, I'm usually the type of guy who would hand a cashier back any apparent extra change, like a 20 instead of a 10.

Anyways, hopefully it hasn't caused any issues for anyone. If they call me up and ask me, I'll tell them straight. Otherwise, I'll continue to keep quiet about it.

Thanks, yep I'd be the same I suppose.

Here is some info on li-poll tech for ya: (incase you missed it)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭DECEiFER

Charge and discharge characteristics of Li-polymer are identical to other Li-ion systems and do not require a special charger. Safety issues are also similar in that protection circuits are needed.
Excellent. Thank you again, GT. :)

A quick bit of googling had left me with the impression that it can be bad for a battery to be receiving a lower amperage than it wants to draw. Better to supply more current and the device/battery can take what it needs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭god's toy

Well you cant trickle charge them like you could the older NiCad/NiMH batteries as they need a minimum amp per hour rate and that would be bad for them I suppose but seeing as charging via the USB port/connector is standardized now,(mostly 500mA to 2.1A) one charger output should work just fine as another but at different rate's per hour.
