    Dear all

Can anyone recommend a company to supply and fit sash windows?

PVC are ok for me but I will also look at Alu-Clad. Have already gotten quotes from Senator Windows and McMullen O'Donnell. Has anyone used these companies in the past? Also intend on talking to Marvin and probably Rationel.
PLEASE PM ME with any comments (forum rules require this).

Cost is an issue however ultimately this is a long term investment and I need an A Rated sash window that looks good and is properly fitted.

    Thanks in advance!

From my experience of windows and having done a lot of research previously the idea of using two different components within sash windows is not good since both have differing expansion issues in cold weather etc. One company you mentioned, that are certainly not cheap, are spending a fortune retro fitting installations as a result of cracks developing between the wood and aluminium. A 1mm crack is only required for cold air to rapidly get into the house. If the window is fully coated in aluminium both inside and out that's different.

In my opinion wood effect PVC windows (from certain recommended companies) are the ideal and very difficult to differeniate from the real thing. Also generally sash windows have a lot of play within them and difficult to fully seal. You will find when asking about BER certifications etc, especially amongst smaller suppliers, explantions along the lines of "the windows are grand and you'll have no problems". Not worth a grain of salt.

We used this company here who have various agents throughout Ireland and UK and their windows reach spec rating A+8. They are also one of the largest manufacturers of sash windows within UK and Ireland.

So far we have had no bother and very impressed.

    However DYOR :). Good luck.

Stay clear of Marvin, their windows rot and fall apart before their 10 year frame gurantee is up. There is an 8 to 10 month waiting game for them to fix or replace their work and that's IF they do it at all.
