Hearing everything from the ole "every 3000miles" to frankly crazy 'official' 20/30k km figures.I stuck best quality Castrol synthetic to exact required spec in it 6 months ago and have done 8000miles + .Will she do till Christmas or should I change it now?(Car-Panda diesel 2005) has 111k miles on clock )

A sensible change interval for most modern cars would be 15,000km (or just under 10,000 miles) That is the interval we always recommend.

Keep in mind that both Opel and Fiat give different oil change intervals for the same engine.

Preventative maintenance will always save money in the long run. I change my own oil(GM 1.7cdti) every 10,000kms and that's with 90% motorway/national road use.

In work we do normally recommend 15k intervals depending on the type of use, i.e, less if its mostly city driving.

Fiat's service interval is 20k KM's for an oil change on the 75bhp Multijet.

Personally, I'd see that as very gratuitous and service it sooner as George pointed out

Opel recommend 30k km For the 1.3 cdti in my Astra van. Which is crazy tbh. The only reason they put the interval so high is to attract businesses who don't want their vans of the road. It's the same 30k km for all renault commercials. Anyway I will be servicing mine alot more often than 30k km. serviced it 2 months ago myself and cost 45 euro for a genuine oil, fuel and air filter from Opel and 20 euro for castrol 5w30 synthetic oil for opels engines I got it when it was on offer in halfords. So really 65 euro won't brake the bank.

Those engines don't like going too long between servicing, I know Opel recommend every 30k but I wouldn't chance anything over 20k with one.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

On any car, I would tend to change the oil at least once a year, no matter how low the mileage.
