    hi
have 05 toyota 1.4 tdi toyota corrolla. have been driving it all week on same fill of diesel. just noticed at one point today when i started it both the fuel filter and the battery light both came on together and stayed on.

no loss of power starting , battery shows no sign of wear.
its not that i got diesel , and it happened straight away , i presume
its water or dirt caught in fuel filter? anyone any ideas.....
absolutely no symptons prior to warning lights coming on.....

Thanks very much. I wonder does the battery light come on just as an extra visual warning light? Is it best not to drive it till its bled? Is it a handy enough job ? Must google it later !
    Cheers

Be careful where you are buying your diesel. I had lights all over the dash and it was down to washed diesel. Almost ruined an engine. Buy from a reputable garage only ;)

    I guess you meant D-4D? ;)

In 99.999% it's alternator failure - more than likely one of diodes down. It's common problem in newer toyotas (E12 onwards). :)

    Sure.

But smart car electrician can repair the one you have. New diode will cost something about 50c, electrician's work - don't know really how much, but I guess cheaper than refurbished alternator. Anyway, whatever your choice, will be cheaper than brand new one. ;)
