Bunkers- Rake and Place

Our club has just introduced this for the winter comps. A great idea, bunkers are in play and as we have cut our staff and no work was being done in the bunkers, they are now being raked for free. It also makes the comps fair, in that where you could aim for a bunker and drop out of it and place the ball, last year, now you still have to be able to play a bunker shot if you venture into a hazard.
I introduced this idea to the mens committee after seeing a post about it here on boards last year. Any other clubs using it and how has it worked out?

That's what the op is implying they introduced this year as opposed to last year where the bunkers were out of play and people could drop out of them and then place their ball.
Rake and place is a fair system, it keeps the bunkers in play without forcing players to play from compacted and hard sand. The rule has been adopted in Tulfarris for at least the last two years and works well. Given our poor summer it's a pity the rule can't be adopted more frequently without making the competition non qualifying.

I asked our course comittee to consider this as a local winter rule and they are very interested to hear how it is working out. Could you let me know which club you are in, our course secretary would like to have a chat to somebody there about it, thanks.

I remember reading about the idea of raking and placing in bunkers and it seems a great idea for when they are in poor condition, particularly in the winter.

How is it done and has it been acknowledged as a success in your club? Are there problems that have arisen?

I assume you move the ball to the side or backwards a couple of feet (clublength or so) and then place after you have raked the sand where your ball lay.

Same here, I suggested it based on reading it here, makes sense and works well for a number of reasons. Ground staff were very pleased to here it also.

Our club just introduced it this winter. Think it's a great idea. Errant shots are still punished but still fair to the player for getting back out.
