Can anyone give me a reason not to?

This would be a perfectly good reason... if it only was available here. ;)

    Hi Guys,

I am about to buy this!
    http://www.elara.ie/productdetail.aspx?productcode=ECE2430418

Can anyone give me a reason not to?

It is a big purchase and I dont want to rush in.

Are you aware that there's an upgraded series 9 released a few months back? It has the new i7 chip, 256 GB memory, 4 GB ram. Not sure if it's available in Ireland.

Edit: You can get it off ebay here, it's not being released in the UK:

    Why is it better?

Full HD display, Core i7 processor, 256 GB SSD
and is there anywhere I can get it here?

Afraid not. Only seen it from US sellers yet. The Amazon price translates to €922. There is no import duty on laptops but you'll be hit with 23% VAT. Or maybe you can afford to wait a little while.

Correction, Amazon UK has it as well... but the price has gone up somewhat on its way over here :D

Why not just get the Asus k56ca in Argos? Tis a similar processor (unless I'm missing something) and upgrade the RAM to 8GB and stick an SSD in it for about Eur200. All in for about 750 to have a similar machine?

But no aluminum body and quite heavy at 2.4 kg, And the display resolution is only 1366x768. ;)

That ebay link is for the 13 inch version, I definitely want a 15 inch which makes finding one so much harder.

I tried that but they wont ship to Ireland!

    That's just mean! ;)

Normally, I wouldn't advocate buying in the US, but even with VAT the Vizio is still 100 yoyos cheaper than the Sammy at Elara... tempting offer, really.

If you don't mind ebay... :D

The Vizio still beats the Sammy on display resolution.

Mind you both sellers are in the US, so 23% VAT apply.

Well fwiw, I bought a sony vaio laptop for €2000 which some lad won in a raffle many years ago off ebay with no difficulties! The guy has 30k feedback @99.8% and you have Paypal protection which is enough peace of mind for me anyway.

I'm open to correction, but I think the warranty for laptops is an international warranty but you might want to double check that:

    http://www.samsung.com/us/support/supportServiceWarranty.do?prd_ia_cd=N0000137&prd_mdl_cd=NP900X3A-A03US&prd_mdl_name=NP900X3A

    NOTICE TO INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS
International warranty will apply only for mobile computer.

In the event that warranty service is required on your (United States purchased) Samsung Moblie Computer and you are located outside of the country, the local Samsung entity in the foreign countries listed on the website at www.samsung.com/global/notepc may be able to provide you with warranty service. Any warranty services rendered shall be in a manner consistent with the terms and conditions of the Samsung Moblie Computer Limited Warranty. Warranty services performed, if made available, may take longer than if performed in the United States. Any services rendered are not performed by Samsung Electronics America and not a part of the Samsung Mobile Computer Limited Warranty.

Customers seeking to invoke this limited warranty in a country not listed on the website at www.samsung.com/global/ notepc (which may be amended by Samsung from time to time) shall be responsible for delivery of the product to the nearest International Warranty Centre as advised by the local Samsung Helpline. The Customer shall be responsible for settling all customs fees associated with the transport, and the cost of delivery to the International Warranty Center. Samsung will pay return transport fees only. The method of shipment of the Samsung Product shall be at Samsung’s discretion. Liability for goods in transit shall be with the shipping party.

If you do decide to go the ebay route the best way is to pay using credit card via paypal, which should give you a double layer of protection. If you get into a situation where paypal won't play ball you still have some recourse through your bank.

from inscrtuables post it looks like the seller is pretty good and the warranty will transfer.

Wow That ebay one now has me convinced, gom I'm so fickle!
I might just have a glass of wine and order it, the 23% is only if it gets caught right?
or would I expect to pay it?

Unfortunately customs are fairly thorough in these times of austerity, so honestly I wouldn't be counting on it.

Have another one and think again. It is a lot of money, and international warranty sounds all good and well, until you have to deal with customer care. The Vizio range should arrive here anytime soon.

Don't have you're hopes too high. As MP said, customs are very alert in times like this. ;)

Does that Vizio have a backlit keyboard? Can't see where it clarifies that anywhere.

    Ben

    No.
Hardly a dealbreaker, but it's worth noting that these keys aren't backlit. According to Vizio reps, the engineers were concerned that a backlit keyboard would increase the thickness of the laptop, and most backlit keyboard suffer from unsightly light bleed anyway. That said, the company is apparently considering backlighting for future models.

There is that possibility... if you order a Vizio Thin + Light from the US. ;)
