Generally speaking large ebay shops in Europe and US with 100% feedback are safe. Some countries are to be avoided. China an obvious one, the Ukraine a really dubious one. Playing a game of "find a legit watch" from the latter would be a long game. Looks OK to me.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

How much do they retail for in the shop if it's a €1000 and they're selling it for €200 more than a good chance it's a knock off.

While this is generally true, there are a number of watch brands that quote wildly unrealistic RRPs and only ever sell for a fraction of that on places like Amazon or Ebay. Armani aren't one of these though, they are relatively inexpensive fashion watches, and I'd be pretty confident that the Ebay item linked by the OP is legitimate.

Any examples out there I've yet to see €800 knocked off an average watch unless you're spending 10's of thousands maybe.

I didn't say it wasn't a legitimate ad I was merely pointing out a rule of thumb when it comes to buying anything on ebay or anywhere. If it seems to good to be true it usually is.

Well, the kings of this trick were Oscar Emil and Krug Baumen. You still see some KBs around selling for a fraction of their inflated RRP.

A commonly available brand, which is quite popular at the moment, that also does this is Invicta. Search them on Amazon, they are generally for sale for around 25% of the quoted RRP. They are legitimate watches and a reasonable buy at the selling price, but the RRP creates a false impression that you are getting a much better deal and a higher quality watch than is really the case.
