Hello, I'm trying to find people and exchange information with them regarding 'John Tarpey Kelly'.

An Irish poet, born in Offaly, buried in Tallaght.
He wrote many poems about Tallaght. Died in 1899 aged 35 years (according to headstone in Tallaght)

He had one brother called Stephen and one sister.

Is anyone currently researching him? Im trying to find out if he was related to the Kellys of Tallaght Village.

    Thanks

Have you got his death cert?
It will give you an address at death and tell you who registered the death. From there, you could look at that address on the 1901 census to see if any of the family names match up.

    https://familysearch.org/search/records/index#count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3A%22john%20tarpey%22~%20%2Bsurname%3Akelly~%20%2Bdeath_place%3A%22Dublin%20South%22~%20%2Bdeath_year%3A1899-1899&collection_id=1408347

There's one death with a birth year in 1864 in the list above but John Kelly is a very common name so it may not be him. If the headstone in Tallaght gives an exact date of death, you may be best going into the GRO and searching the right quarter of 1899 for Dublin South to narrow your results.

He is mentioned in a July 1904 publication of The Irish Monthly, where it states that he died 'three years ago'.

http://archive.org/stream/irishmonthly07unkngoog#page/n371/mode/2up [p.365, bottom half of page].

There is no citation for this statement so could it be the case that the author is out by a couple of years, 1899 vs 1901?

His date of birth is also stated so you should be able to get his baptismal record and maybe even his civil birth record as 1864 was the first year of RC registrations. Of course, that's if you don't have them already.

a quick search of the baptism index for Clonmacnoise RC parish show two John Kelly baptisms around the right time - one in 1863, the other in 1865. A year or two out vs a reported age at death is not unusual...

It looks like father's names are John and Patrick. (didn't have to experiment....lucky guess in both cases)

this civil birth looks promising - date matches the article Coolnabacky1873 posted, but especially his mother's maiden name ....
    name: John Kelly
    birth date: 24 Feb 1864
    Birthplace: 0607, Ferbane, King's Co.
Parents : John Kelly / Maria Torpey

    see : https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FR3Z-6Z9

The place of birth is usually the sub-district, and the number relates to the page number in the register, which you can use to locate the full Index reference needed to order a cert, which will show father's occupation, a more detailed place of birth etc

two sisters for John, also from extracted civil births..
    Rachel Kelly, 05 Dec 1865
    Catherine Kelly, 03 May 1869
and the matching BMD index reference for him :
    Name: John Kelly
    Registration district: Parsonstown
    Event type: Birth
    Year: 1864
    Volume : 3 / Page : 607

Parsonstown is the old name for Birr, and Ferbane subdistrict was part of this. Ferbane sub-district included Clonmacnoise townland, and at least part of the civil parish of the same name.
