Mondeo Issues

    Sigh!

I went to start my '03 Diesel Mondeo this morning (-3c @ 6am) and it wouldn't start. I tried several times before giving up. It chugged over but never started. The weird thing is while trying the CD changer loaded the CD's, the temp gauge goes to between 30 and 40c (even when the car is idle) and the rev counters go all over the place for a split second! Tried to start the car again when I got back from work and still no luck. After various searches/talking to friends there was plenty of mention of glow plugs and the battery. Any ideas?

Another thing I should mention is that if I put an extra bit of juice into the car in fourth or fifth gear the car seems to go into a limp mode, loses a bit of power and the coil light flashes. This resets after the engine is restarted. Plenty of similar stories on the internet but no indication as to what it could be?

Will have to call out a recovery company tomorrow so any ideas as to what I'm in for?

Is it a TDCI or TDDI? Have you tried looking for the Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the dash self test mode?

Could be your injector pump gone mate .Had this issue with my old mondeo the pump went wouldn't start very common in the mondeo . I had the more reliable TDDI and the pump went in that and the TDCI is worse again .

Well I'd start with the cheaper option of a battery. In cold weather batteries suffer big time and perhaps there wasn't enough to complete a crank and the spikes caused the CD player/dials to haywire. Perhaps you're having electricial gremlins as a result. A new battery is a cheap test/fix?

    Thanks all.

The Mondeo is a TDCI. Really hoping it's not injector or pump issues and something simple like the battery.

Okay, some great news. It turned out that the battery needed to be jumped. Still not too happy with the high-gear power issues but when I put my car in for a service I'll ask them to have a look. Thanks all :)
