    hi guys,

    I need a little advice here, I have a 1999 civic,

It needs a new throttle body so the car idles lower than it should, because of this I have discovered it even cuts out when I lock the steering when i'm parked up.

It needs a drivers side panel and the bonnet could do with replacing aswell, and it also need a new swingarm on the back wheel..

Thing is the car drives perfectly, Has only had 3 owners, great interior (like new) and has all round electric windows, mirrors and sunroof. It also has nct till january.

I'm just wondering what would I likely get if i wanted to sell it?

I have been going through the internet and been looking at a 00 focus.

It'll be worth something - even for scrap.

Need to know, shape, miles, engine size, etc.

Stick up a picture and on Donedeal.ie and someone will buy it! :)

Don't know why your selling a 99 civic to buy a focus that's a year younger!? If its the 1.4 petrol your after you'll get there quicker walking. Solid performer though and a better chassis than the honda but oh so slow.

Put the civic up on donedeal.ie. I know its a cliche but its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. Through it up for a 7 or 8 hundred euro mentioning the throttle issue and see what happens.

You might be able to get a new throttle body for that pretty cheap so it would at least take that problem away, then the car would.

But with that amount of damage a few hundred is all that's likely. A fairly handy small time dealer or mechanic could buy that, tidy it up a bit and sell it on but an ordinary person is unlikely to risk giving much for it

Try cleaning the IACV if you or your mechanic hasn't tried it already.
It's the Idle Air Control Valve and does exactly what it says on the tin until it gets gunked up - then you'll get shuddery idle, idle hunting around the place etc. Pretty easy to do if you have a 10mm (most likely) socket or spanner. Some carb cleaner spray or equivalent and some cotton buds will be needed.
Should be a tutorial out there somewhere on the net, seems to be a common pastime for older honda owners :)

You might be able to disconnect the air intake and have a go cleaning out the throttle body while you're at it.

Well the idle contol valve was changed but the problem is still the same. (got new valve from scrap yard) I also think my mechanic mate sprayed the whole system with carb cleaner..

If the Civic costs less to repair than it would to replace it with a Focus then I would absolutely go down the route of repairing it... Much better car in my opinion.
