its not madness, a young child could easily choke on them..i'm amazed they're allowed put them in to be honest

yes i know its no surprise that it contains a ring:rolleyes:

but that doesn't get away from the fact that its still a hazard... a young child could easily choke on one...well couldn't they???

Yes, they do choke to death on them. Growing up in the 70's I remember thousands of kids being killed every halloween by choking to death on rings and coins in the brack. We'd have a week break for halloween and instead of 28 of us in the class, after halloweeen there would be only 10 or 12 of us left, all the others died eating brack. Crazy times. Glad they banned it to protect todays kids from such slaughter.

If you're really worried about your kids give the fruit cake instead of brack.

Because the commercial variant in no way bears any similarity to the real thing which is fantastic.

Find a genuine old recipe and make it at home and add a coin, ring whatever

The homemade version is fantastic - you bought the pretend one :(

I suppose you didn't know any better though..

Well of course not, we were brought up fighting lions for fresh meat. None of this fancy baking carry on.

Dear expert do try and keep up there are variants in how this is spelt. Try the OED for instance. BARNBRACK / BARMBRACK
Depends on your IQ to not know otherwise...

I've just eaten a whole barmbrack, no ring, stick, bean, pea or rag, zilch.
I feel I've been ripped off, plus I'm feeling sick.

Since when did they start putting sticks, rags or zilchs into them...... Whe only ever used to look for the ring, the pea, and possibly bean (can't even remember if the bean was usually there either!!)

And please, someone enlighten me, WTF is a zilch???!!! :pac::D:eek:confused:

in the perfect world that would be the case.....but you can just imagine the scenario of a busy mum or dad rushed off their feet inadvertently giving their child a slice of brack with a ring in it...could easily happen is all that i'm saying:cool:

Well if you can't adequately supervise the little darlings DON'T have any! Or at least don't feed them cakes marked with the words "may contain a ring" and then don't supervise them. ... Would you send your kid off for a swim on the beach and be 'too busy' to supervise them.

Most of them are dry and awful. If you don't make your own I think its Gateaux's version of it that is the most moist. Its nice with a bit of butter and a cúpan tae :)

Fado fado...a ring, pea, bean, stick, rag and Im sure one other being so old I cant remember and none of this health and safety issues... much more fun than the ones today with just a boring old ring in them. And of course on hallowen night we went dunking... apples in a dish of water with money in them and we had to get them by sinking our teeth in them and then we also had them hanging from the ceiling with the same idea and Im in my early 50s not my 80s lol.

Oh, so they're reducing the amount of things that are in them rather than increasing them.....fair enough, I must have missed that point!!!

Don't worry though, I'm only in my 20's and I remember bobbing for apples, and the one from the ceiling aswel. Never went trick or treating before but living in the middle of nowhere there was little point!!!
