I've always tried to repair my own computer and haven't fared badly to date. However, my DELL XPS M1710 latop has died. I originally paid 3000 for it, so i'm reluctant to part with it. It's dead as a dodo. I swapped my spare battery and adapter but not a peep out of it. Suspect it's a motherboard problem which is beyong my capabilities. Anyone know of a decent repair place in Cork that knows their stuff and wont rip me off?:(

If your reasonably sure it's the motherboard, then you might as well skip the diagnosis and just get a replacement motherboard.

The first one I found on eBay was £139 - you'll probably pay at least 1/2 that for someone to look at it and diagnose it.

Any lights/activity at all when you try to power it on?

I had one of these and had to have the motherboard replaced twice, both times it wasn't dead though, just problems with the power connection.
