Away next week for the mid term en famile and staying in Carlingford. Bringing the bike and hope to get out out for a couple of spins. Looking for a bit of direction for 60 or 70k routes with a bit of a climb in the Cooleys, doesnt have to be a mapped or strava route just a general indication, i.e. into Omeath take a left up the road 20k etc etc any general pointers like that most welcome.

The climb at the end of this http://app.strava.com/rides/12585709 is nice and will take you up to the cooleys, you can then take the 1st right after the climb and go down by Jenkinstown and then back towards Carlingford.

You also have the choice of this climb http://app.strava.com/segments/1539748 which is pretty tough and the road surface at the start is pretty rough, but its worth it for the views at the top.

North Louth/South Armagh is great for cycling Jeff.

    Here's a spin I used to do:

    Dundalk-Carlingford-Omeath-Newry-Camlough-Keggal Rd-Meigh-Forkhill-Dundalk.

    Another is: Carlingford-Omeath-Newry-Camlough-Lislea-Mullaghbawn-Forkhill-Jonesboro-Ravensdale-Ballymac-Carlingford.

If you want exact turning points or map references, let me know.

Cycle from Ballymascanlon hotel on the Carlingford Rd to Ravensdale, it is a back road and runs parallell to the Motorway. Go past the Carrickdale Hotel towards Newry on the old Road and turn right for Omeath, travel in this road about a mile (past republican monoumennt) and you will see a lane to your right with a sign for walkers. There is a great climb here up to the RTE Mast 20% in places, when you cross the mountain it brings you down to Omeath, nice cafe there down towards the shore on your right
