Nisssan Vanette handbrake light

Any other reason why the handbrake light in a Vanette would come on if the brake fluid is fully topped up and the pads are ok? Was just out in the van now and it came on down the end of my road. The braking isin't any different than it was before the light came on. Still seems perfect. On the way back the light went off so I checked the brakes by slamming on them (going very slow) and the light came back on. Its not the handbrake itself either because I checked that when the light went off. Any ideas?

Oh and also, the brake fluid seemed filthy

Is it the NV200? Had a similar problem with one before. Have you changed the tyre size in any way from the original spec? It causes the abs unit to act up if you have. Seems to be a common enough problem with the NV200 due to the oddball size tyres fitted as standard.

No mate. Just a standard old 99 Nissan Vanette (Delivery) identical to this. No ABS. Very basic.

More than likely the switch under the handbrake has failed.

AFAIK isn't the handbrake cable operated ? Nothing to do with the hydraulic braking system.
