    Hi guys,

Just looking for any recommendation for skiing/snowboarding in Austria this season. Been snowborading in Ischgl, St. Anton, Stubaital and recently Les Trois Vallées. All great places to ski/snowboard.

Group of us going, intermediate and above. Any thoughts - somewhere in Austria - preferably where we can ski into the town/accom.

    Cheers, BN

Went to Soll 2 years ago and boarded. Have to say it was one of the best ski holidays I've ever had. Plenty of slopes, maybe less than 3 Valleys, but good for boarding. there were a few snow parks, i only spent time in one of them to be honest. Its a huge ski area, the SkiWelt, with loads of slopes.
Also, the apres ski was class. Spent most of our time in the first bar you come to when leaving the slopes and heading back to town, it had a great atmosphere. Soll is also pretty cheap compared to other places. I would definately go back

Saalbach! It's my favourite resort - and all roads lead to home. You can ski into the village from a load of different mountains.

soll not great for skiing back to town the the run down can be either so icy that it is unpleasant to use it is very thin in areas so bad for boarders.

I like soll Have been there twice. the night life is quiet good for such a small place.

Soll is terrible for anything but beginners.

Saalbach, would tick the boxes or back to Anton

Came to suggest Mayrhofen. Although speaking as a beginner, it's not recommended for beginners.

Ur wrong there fattes u can ski back to the village in Mayrhofen. There is a 5 k run from the top of the ahorn down to the village ,Its a good challenge we did it last jan twice on pure powder days and it is pretty special the last km can get a bit icy and slushy though due to the village been at much lower altitude than the mountain

2 Drag lifts to chair lifts an enough terrain flat dull terrain at top for 3 hours skiing for a one week intermediary makes Ahorn a tiny % of Mayrhofens terrain. Hardly worth the trip up to take the old WC downhill run back to the village especially considers the OP previous resort history.

Lift company should never have put the high capacity gondola up there and should have used the $$$ to increase the Penkan upload capacity

There is 2 itinerary runs from Penkan back to the village but they have been open once in the past 12 years & you need to e a very experienced back country skier to ride them. & a serious disregard for your bases and edges

    Hi guys,
Thanks for all the suggestions. Spent a few hours mulling over it and unfortunately finances forced our hand and we've switched to going to France. Hopefully we can book earlier next season and get back to Austria. (prices appeared to have jumped significantly in the past few weeks)

Hopefully the skiing will be just as good in Val D'Isere/Tignes. :D

    Hi all,

Not directly related but rather than start a new thread I said Id put it in here. Heading to Mayrhofen in Feb 2nd, 4 of us and have booked this place
    http://www.booking.com/hotel/at/ferienwohnung-taschler.en-gb.html?sid=2bac616616fcabbb28f0491881bcb9fe;dcid=1;checkin=2013-02-02;checkout=2013-02-10;srfid=a0efe2c9a979294559ac4c2fb18780dd33e9751fX1#hash-blockdisplay4

Just wondering does anyone have any experience of it as I cant find any reviews online and I have been searching for ages. Booking.com reviews are prettty useless. No cash has changed hands yet so hence why Im looking for someones/friends experiences

Also the flight with Ryanair doesnt seem to work out very well inrespect of catching the last train to Mayrhofen on the Ssaturday. Could be quite a dash trying to get to the train station from Salzburg airport for the last train on the Saturday?

Browndog82 Ramsau, is down the valley from Mayrhofen but well linked to the rest of the ziller valley. If you get a powder day stay where you are and use the old ass chair lift out of the valley and ski the hell out of the untouched powder in what will feel like a private resort.

Zillertalbahn train runs between Mayrhofen proper and Ramsau takes about 10-15 minutes. Last one back is about 8ish I think.

You will hardly notice the difference they are that close but do ski local if you get a day its worth it

    Hi
Sky'd Mayrhofen last year and although the snow and skiing was excellent (so was the apres ski by the way) the queue for the gondola to get back down drove me nuts, so much so thet i only ski'd there two days, travelled to Kaltenbach / Gerlos / Zell am Ziller and the Tux for the rest of the stay, excellent travel links and fantastic skiing, I preferred the train back in the evening rather than that dreadful queue. You definately do not have to stay in Mayr to enjoy the best that the area has to offer

You know it is possible to ski to the base at Finkenberg and take a 10 min bus ride back to Mayrhofen

Just get the last 160 Gondola of the day up.
