Satellite receiver not scanning all frequencies

I recently purchased a Triax TSC 114 Combo receiver. I completed a full scan and noted that I was missing many of the expected channells. These included SKY news, ITV London, ITV2, ITV4, Pick, Challenge, CBS.

This receiver has a list of available frequencies and upon investigation I noted that the signal from certain frequencies was zero, whilst from other frequencies it was perfect. The missing channels corresponded with the poor signal frequencies.

When I plug my Sky box into the same outlet, and manually scan the faulty frequencies, the Sky box picks up the channels no problems and I can watch them.

Is the problem with my Triax receiver. I have a Sky installed satellite dish (9 years old) with a quad LNB.

There are 4 "bands" on satellite just like the four bands LW/MW/SW/FM on old radios.

It sounds like you aren't picking up one of these.
(When you say zero do you mean signal or quality ?)

Check if there is a common link. try in a friends house too

Are all the missing channels above or below 117XX ? (changeover frequency varies a little between receivers) (22KHz tone)
Are they all H or V ? (voltage)

It could also be that the dish is slightly mis-aligned and the receiver isn't as sensitive as the sky box (try in a friends house) or the LNB is on the way out but very unlikely especially if you get good quality on other channels.

Many thanks for that. Specifically I'm missing 10758, 10936 and most of the frequencies above 112xx (i.e. most of the stuff that comes in on the 27.5KHz tone).

I took back the box to the supplier he plugged it into his own system and worked perfectly. My Sky box picks up all the channels except certain ones affected by a cordless phone - these missing channels don't correlate with the missing channels on the Triax box. I have an older Triax box which also picks up many of the missing channels.

I haven't checked dish alignment (afraid of making problem worse), but I have noticed the lining is falling off the Sky minidish and it now has a rusty appearance. Could this be a factor.

If I remember correctly its about 40% signal and 0% quality on the missing frequencies.

Indeed these very channels are the ones that some people would use to align their dish as they are the weakest transponders on 28.2/5.

Sky News/CBS Channels/Challenge TV/Food Network. Also be aware that tuners in certain boxes are less sensitive than others so the threshold for displaying a channel may be evident on one but not another.

Your dish may not be aligned properly/lnb might be askew/cabling may be lossy. All of these things can contribute to poor signal on weak transponders. Process of elimination.

They sell these Sky dishes new with a quad lnb on adverts for €25.
