After I signed yesterday I was told I needed to join the queue of people getting a new ID. The queue was really long so I asked could I come back another day and the woman said yes. Can anyone tell me what the new ID is for and is it urgent that I get it.

It is a photo id. Social welfare take the photo, so you don't need to bring one with you.

Facial and voice recognition technology are being brought in for access to public services, so as to make it more difficult for a person to have two cards or stuff like that.
