Best insurers after a claim?

Am shopping around for better insurance, as my provider (Zurich) just increased my premium by 50%, up to €940 fully comp, after a claim in the last year (which was for accidental damage, total cost of claim €6k)

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations for better value insurers?

Also, any experience with Chill as a broker? They just called me back based on an online query and are quoting €671 for fully comp, which is much more what I had in mind. Never heard of them before though, so always a little wary.

(In case you're interested - since all the companies are - I'm a 32 y'o Irish female, Full Irish since 2006, plus my 30 y'o Serbian spouse as named driver, Full Irish since this year, car is an 08 Fiat Bravo 1.4, parked in Dublin 7, domestic use only. Renewal form from Zurich says I still have 3 yrs no claims, not entirely sure how since my claim was in May of this year, but...)

Chill are a broker, so they are merely obtaining quotes from underlying insurers for you. They should be able to tell you who the actual insurer would be.

Never had a claim so can't say who is good or not, but you should get an online quote from Tesco (RSA effectively).

Your ncb has been stepped back a portion op..... Your best bet is to try them all. Zurich will quote.... Then load your claim onto that premium then deduct your ncb.... Others may offer a better deal as to them you're new business. Basically, Google or yellow pages and start calling /clicking!

Yep, Chill were upfront about being a broker, the €671 quote they offered was from Axa.

Tesco won't cover me! Not sure why...

Found Fully Comp Lite with 123.ie for €488, which is a bit more like it, will probably go for them. (almost €500 less than Zurich!!)

If anyone has any horror stories about 123.ie, am happy to hear 'em ;)

    Thx all.

From my own experience, you'll probably find it hard to move from your present insurer.
IIRC, one of the questions asked by insurers is - ''Have you had any claims in the last 5 years?'' Answering truthfully will have you stuck, and answering with a lie will drop you in big doo-doo if you get caught out.

I'm open to correction though, if I am wrong.

Is it not the case that the protected NCB only works with your current insurer? If you move insurers, you'll have a claim on your record and they won't so easily quote you. Were you using 3 years NCB without declaring the claim for other quotes?

    Thx all.

was insured with them paid me money, got a cert stayed with them for a year, got a better quote upon renewal. Didn't have any claims so don't know how they would have been in that case.

Nope, with 123.ie it asks have you a NCB, to which I said yes, 3 years (which is what the form I have from Zurich says). They then ask if I had any claims in the last 3 years, to which I said yes and gave the details. Subsequently got the quote for 488.

I haven't hidden the claim in any of the online applications I've done, which is why (I guess) Tesco and NoNonsense don't want ot look at me. The bit I don't quite understand is how Zurich (or anyone) can reckon I still have 3 years NCB despite the claim in May...

Guess I'll give 123 a call in the a.m., I gotta admit I am pleasantly surprised at it being so low, I always assume there must be a catch in cases like this ;)

Thx all for your opinions & advice!
