    Hi,

I applied for JSA (from JB) in April this year and have been waiting for my claim to be decided since then. I had been following up with SWO regualrly but kept being told it would be sorted soon.
Met with SW Inspector the other day and all seems to be in order for them to process but he mentioned that with regards to backdating, that it was only done in exceptional circumstances.
I would have thought that it would be backdated to the date of my application and it was not my fault that they took this long to sort out, the delays were on their side, I furnished everything they requested and followed up continuously.
I'm wondering what I should do if they say they aren't backdating? I need it to pay back family who supported us in this time.
It was like they were blaming me for them taking so long to resolve and now I'm being penalised for their delay.

I am presuming that you went straight from JSB to pending JSA and your claim has been open since April...if this is the case then you will receive back dating.... are you currently receiving supplementary welfare allowance while your jsa is being processed ...if yes then any monies paid through swa will be paid back to swa from jsa backdating.
