Various Noises

I've noticed a few noises over the past few months coming from my car. Having it serviced this week so I'll point out the different noises to the mechanic and hopefully have him sort them out.

Just for my own curiosity I'm wondering what they might be and whether or not they're serious...

    1. Squeaking break pedal (it's the pedal that squeks, not the brakes) - hopefully just more annoying than anything.
    2. Squeaking clutch
    3. Engine has started to sound like it is rattling - this disappears when accelerating but comes back when the car is stopped...
    4. When starting car from cold there is a 'squeaking belt' noise which goes away after the car warms up.

Car is a 2003 Nissan Almera.

    Thanks in advance!

Kinda normal enough stuff and easily fixed. See below...

    1. Squeaking break pedal (it's the pedal that squeks, not the brakes) - hopefully just more annoying than anything. A bit of WD40 should sort that.
    2. Squeaking clutch - Mechanic can fix that, might just be a spring.
    3. Engine has started to sound like it is rattling - this disappears when accelerating but comes back when the car is stopped... Sounds like the tappets, again an easy fix for your mechanic.
    4. When starting car from cold there is a 'squeaking belt' noise which goes away after the car warms up. - Most likely your alternator belt, easily replaced. Although in my Mazda the squealing belt was the belt for the water pump. Ten minutes and it was changed over and noise gone.

Not to thread on please kill me's toes, but you might be better with silicone spray or 3-in-1 oil, or better still a grease gun, wd40 is likely to strip whatever lubrication there is left on the pedal

I will defer to him on everything else :D

Thanks for the replies. They sound like easy enough simple fixes - I was just trying to get a sense of whether or not I'd be shelling out loads of money that I don't have for replacement parts!
