Hotel room as location for phone interview?

Seriously considering it. Parents house where I'm living currently will have up to three other loud people and a dog walking around it. Don't know anyone who can lend me private office space.

Obviously even with an online deal it's a fair bit to pay just for an hour or two of quiet time at a desk! But if it puts me at ease and helps me get the job then it's worth the €50-€60… It's a job I would really like too.

    Is there a better option?

Do many hotels offer an early check in? Interview is at 1pm so would want to be checking in 12 or at the very latest 12.30.

Do you not have friends/relatives who work and leave perfectly quiet houses empty during the day

You are jobseeking, any chance the local FÁS centre would give you a lend of a meeting room for two hours

They should, it costs them nothing and helps a job-seeker

    Give them a call

Ask your family to be quiet during the interview?

Put the dog outside during the interview?

Are they ringing you or you ringing them?

If they are ringing you, get in a car (if you have one) go to somewhere quiet. Top level of a multi story car park (the one with no roof) is always good and quiet.

This is an idea, will give them a bell.

You would think so, but I'm racking my brain trying to think of anyone. Unfortunately no family nearby and friends either have emigrated, or at home with flatmates, or living with retired parents.
Ask your family to be quiet during the interview?
If it was a less important interview I would do (and have done) this. I've been months trying to get this interview. It's the constant threat of interruption though that would put me over the edge nerves-wise, my family can be... unreliable with instruction.

    Edit:

Wow that's a really good idea, I could borrow a car I think, thanks!

If you still want to go the hotel route, alot of hotels have conference or business/meeting rooms that can be hired on an hourly basis.

I'm sure if you ask nicely, they could accomodate you.

With this, they would probably provide coffee/tea/water, and most likely a phone line which would be a handy backup for your mobile.
There would be an internet connection as well, so you could use Skype or the likes as a backup.

But, I would explain to the HR of the company where you are taking the meeting from as well. It shows your dedcation to the interview itself, and what lengths you go to.

    Call shop = 50 cent.

Clearly a thinly veiled "I can afford a hotel room even tho I don't need it" thread.

I really doubt the OP came here to brag about being able to afford a hotel room...!

"Thinly veiled" posts can stay away please. If they were ever funny, they're not now.

    Hello ApeXaviour
From what you have told us this phone interview is important to you as it is for a job you want.
I can understand why you are looking for a place that is quite as you want to give yourself the best chance possible with this.
Is there a local center for the unemployed near you as they may be able to help you. I would ask the local fas office or a local business centre for an hour or two rental may not be much.
It would be better to do this interview on a land line phone just in case your mobile phone coverage was poor or the phone was not working right.
If you have to book a hotel room, look up hotels.com, booking.com, agoda.com or last minute.ie.
Good Luck with the interview and let us know how you get on.

My son had to use his car (in a quiet spot) for an interview. The interview should have taken place in the UK but it was during the 2010 snow and the airports were closed. He found it a great way to do an interview, and best of all he got the job.Just give yourself time to get your head together, have a bottle of water and any notes you may need at hand. Make sure that your battery is well charged. Best of luck

Lots of serviced-office complexes will rent you an office for a half-day. Usually comes complete with a desk, chair, heating, bland-looking corporate environment, receptionist. Sometimes it also includes use of a landline.

Try Regus (www.regus.ie). They have what you need, just not sure what the cost is. They have a quote form that says will respond in 30 mins.

Go into your local pub, ask to see Jimmy the Barman, tell him the story and that you need somewhere quiet to talk - only talk, he can stay and listen if he wants. Offer him 20 quid for 30 mins of quiet. This is assuming the call comes in at a time when said pub is shut, e.g. before 12 noon. Cheaper than a hotel

Most hotels would give you a small meeting room for a couple of hours at a handy rate.

The car is a good spot, I did the same a while ago as I have kids. I put up loads of post it notes with prompts on the windows, Front window had leadership examples, drivers side window had financial examples, passenger window had a list of all my projects and their values and key points I would like to raise, even my CV was taped on the center console.

As I mentioned each point during the interview I took off the post it notes so I didnt repeat myself.

Thanks everyone for your advice and support. The car one is a great suggestion... and the business centres in town where you can rent a bit of space is a great backup.

The hotel thing wasn't going to work out since the interview is at 1pm... and there's no way to guarantee early check in. It just started getting messy and out of my budget.

A friend kindly offered their nice big campus room for the duration of the interview, with a big desk and lock on the door. I'll buy them lunch in return, a small fraction of what the hotel would have cost.

There's a good chance I won't get this job and will need to do a few more phone interviews so now I have some excellent ideas that wouldn't have occurred to me before as options. Much appreciated.
