Does anyone else find it terrible that this card only works until 5 o clock? What happens when you're on work experience or doing after school activities and you get the bus at say five past five? What would be the next best option, a rambler?

These are meant for school, not work experience or after school activities.

    How old is the student?

It will depend on usage and distance travelled. A Leap Card for the trip home might be an option - they would be charged child fare, not school child fare.

http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Fares--Tickets/Fare-Information/Fares/Child Fares Cash Fare Leap Card Fare
    Schoolchild * €0.75 €0.70
    Stages 1 to 7 €0.90 €0.85
    Over 7 Stages €1.15 €1.05
    Outer Suburban 1 €1.15 €1.05
    Outer Suburban 2 €1.95 €1.80
    Xpresso in 1 zone €2.00 €1.80
    Xpresso in 2 zones €2.30 €2.10
    Route 90 & 91 €0.90 €0.85
    Route 221 & 236 €0.90 €0.85
    City Centre fare €0.60 €0.50

There is a child Rambler ticket, but make sure it is used for all trips on the day. ID may be required.

    Child 5 Day Rambler (u16yrs) €7.30 http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Fares--Tickets/Tickets/Other/
