It's a great programme, I didn't deliver this specific class (I did deliver 2 other programmes). The lesson plans are all laid out for you, you just have to familiarise yourself with them. The teacher should always be in the classroom with you, so they deal with any major discipline issues. The school I dealt with was really nice and the JA coordinator was always supportive if I had any issues. I had a really great experience with JA.

Cheers, good to hear some positive feedback on it anyway!

Bit daunting going into a classroom again but hopefully I will have same good experience as yourself.

Would highly recommend from a personal and prof POV. I hate presentations and found that this helped me somewhat. The kids I had were lovely and the teacher was always there. It was no bother doing this tbh. Would say I got more out of it than the kids!

I've done it twice, first time with first year girls and loved it, the career guidance counsellor was my liaison and she was brilliant.

Second time I did it I had 4th year boys and the teacher clearly saw the class as a weekly chance to catch up on correcting homework in the staff room. The students were more interested in what I'd done at the weekend than learning the programme (I was only about 22 at the time) and in the end, I never even got to finish the programme - the mid-term break fell in the middle of it and the teacher just had no interest in getting me in to finish it, which, given her attitude, suited me just fine.

All in all, though, it's a great experience and I'd recommend it to anyone.

This will be my second year volunteering with JA. This year I'm presenting the Our City programme to third and fourth classes before Xmas and the Stem Skills programme to fifth and sixth classes after Xmas.

Would really recommend that everyone try it. I got into it to try and improve on my public speaking skills and its really paid off. I gave my first Our City module this morning and it went really great. I transferred my module onto PowerPoint and displayed it through the classroom interactive white board. Really made it a lot easier to walk around the room and still keep things flowing.

Support from JAI is there if you need it as well.

Good look to all volunteers this year
