Hi, am laid up with a back injury so I have been told not to do much exercise for another month or so until I am ready for an exercise program set by physio..i cant even go for long walks, or even walk around town, had to cancel pilates and yoga etc..I had begun losing a bit of weight, (I have about 2 stone to lose )but this has come to a halt.. I am only allowed to do walking for about 20 minutes, nothing strenuous , i am doing a limited set of exercises daily given to me by physio..
Anyways, how can i loose weight if I cant do cardio etc..(I am not in a gym) What would be the best foods to eat? Should i just limit portion size now, as before I did this and was working it off 3 times a week..If anyone has any tips I would greatly appreciate it, Thanks

Cut calorie intake. Losing weight is 80% diet and only 20% exercise. Don't worry about missing your cardio, as long as its only temporary as there is nothing like working up a sweat to feel better about yourself. Start your physio activities as soon as possible. You need to read the stickies on nutrition to work out your calorie needs etc.

    Hi Chickus,
Sorry to hear about your injury; I'm in the same boat as you. Before I got injured in March I was running 5km in 30 mins and was at the peak of my fitness.
I do Weight Watchers which I find does help, to limit portion size and to monitor what I eat. Whilst some emphasis is put on exercise, it's not mandatory and I do have weight loss (albeit slower than if I was running or walking 40 mins a day).
Only in the last month have I been able to walk for 40 mins without pain, I'm on intensive physio too.
Would you be able to walk in a swimming pool? It's non weight bearing. Even 20 mins is great. YOu look like an eejit though walking up and down!!
I hope you get back to full health soon, I find it mentally exhausting not been able to exercise properly.

I had a serious injury recently and I lost about 9lbs in a month. Training less meant I was eating less and the weight came off. There is no reason why you can't lose weight by restricting your diet.

If you are in Ireland, check out www.alterg.com Machine designed by NASA to help astronauts 'walk on the mooen'. It can unweight you up to 80% off your normal body weight which means you can walk or run even with an injury. We have had clients of 24stone lose 6 stone over a period of four months . It's fun too!

Hey where can you use this ?

m an exercise bike . You may be able to use that. But im not sure of the extent of teh injury. Focus on protein and fruits for energy. Many vegetarians report increased energy level. I have never been a fan of carbs. Brown braed instead of white. Eggs. Lean meats . Less potatoesat dinner time
