Started a bit later than advertised to facilitate players involved in the City Open played earlier in the day. Still managed to finish more or less on schedule. High class field and good turnout with 39 players participating. Excellent standard of Darts all round though the Double start seemed to catch a few players out. Players of note on the day included Jack Mckenna, Don Healy, Ross O'Brien, Anto McCracken, Ray Byrne, Graham Rooney, Martin Byrne and Tommy Hynes. The eventual deserving winner was Mr Mac who defeated the improving Ross O'Brien in a closely contested final.

    Q/Finals
    Ross O'Brien bt Jack McKenna
    Don Healy bt Ray Byrne
    Anto McCracken bt Tommy Hynes
    Martin Byrne bt Graham Rooney

Good turnout with an encouraging number of young players participating. Quality field ensured a predictably high overall standard. Numbers slightly down due to player commitment elsewhere. However this did not detract from an exciting days darts. Players of note included the evergreen Jack McKenna, his talented grandson John McKenna, Martin Byrne, Ryan Maher, Don Healy, Joe Byrne, Tony Eagers and the eventual finalists Keith Rooney and Anto McCracken. Excellent standard overall but the final was an exceptional game of darts between two superbly talented in-form players. TV standard and both players are to be commended for an epic display.

This competition runs every Saturday for 12 weeks --6 weeks before Christmas and 6 weeks after Christmas. There will be a 2 week break over the holidays -- No games Sat 22nd or Sat 29th December -- Recommencing Saturday 5th January. This is Week number 5. I would remind players that they must participate in at least 3 tournaments to be eligible to play in the overall finals where there is a prize fund of 1200 Euro. Many players still haven't paid us a visit but there is still plenty of time and opportunity to ensure qualification. So come on lads give it a go.

Another enjoyable days darts though turnout could have been better. Impressive displays from Dave O'Connor, Tony Eagers, Keith Rooney, Graham Rooney, Austin Hickey, Martin Byrne, Eugene McArdle etc. Young players deserving mention included up and coming Nathan Matthews (129 finish on the bull) and talented Dan Kelly. Indeed Dan was the star of the show disposing of previous winners Anto McCracken and Keith Rooney en route to a convincing final victory over Dave O'Connor (Though to be fair to Dave his starting doubles crucified him). Next week is the last competition before Christmas. After a 2 week break the competition recommences Saturday 5th January.

In reply to private post. Players from Borough League are more than welcome. Plenty of good players out your way so looking forward to seeing you. Please note that Saturday 15th December is the last tournament before Christmas. We are then taking a 2 week break with the competition recommencing Saturday 5th January and running for a further six weeks from that date.

Commendable displays from such players as Anto McCracken, Keith Rooney, Sean McArdle, Martin Byrne, John Nolan, Graham Rooney, Joe Byrne and Dave Crocker. Happy New Year everyone. Hope you all had a nice Christmas. Reminder that the Competition recommences this Saturday 5th Jan 5pm. Still 6 weeks to run so plenty of time for all to qualify for overall finals. So come on pay us a visit.

Good overall standard again though surprisingly some players continue to have problems with the starting double. The Double start is a great equaliser as on occasions it catches out even the best of players. Personally I think it should be a feature of all games. Impressive individual performances on the day from players such as Gareth Gray, Ross O'Brien, John Nolan, Graham Rooney, John Burke, Sean Mc Ardle, Aiden Gallagher and Eugene McArdle. Bragging rights on the day went to the talented Sean McArdle who deservedly beat the ultra consistent Gareth Gray 3-2 in a tense final - Sean went out on 131 in a high scoring last leg with Gareth sitting on 48.

Nearing the stage where competition for qualifying places is intensifying . However there is still plenty of time for players to make their mark. Proviso is that players must participate in at least 3 competitions to be eligible to compete in the overall finals regardless of points acquired. So come on lads pay us a visit.

Disappointing turnout but some quality darts nevertheless. Players of note included Dave O'Connor, Eamon Hickey, Tony Eagers, Martin Byrne, Anto McCracken, Dan Kelly, Sean McArdle and promising young player Jake Clarke. Best man on the day was a resurgent Anto McCracken who edged past Sean McArdle in a competitive if somewhat tense final.

Numbers well up on last week. High quality field. Some top class darts. Notable performances from such as Joe Byrne, Glen Spearing, Dave O'Connor, Gerry Healy, Graham Rooney, Derek Tolster, Eamon Callery and Aiden Gallagher. Eventual deserving winner was Dublin most improving player Glen Spearing who defeated a luckless Dave O'Connor 3-1 in a high scoring final. Congratulations to Glen who also won last weeks Tramore competition.

Sorry about delay in posting. Computer problems. Good days darts. Players of note included Sean McArdle, Dave O'Connor, Gerry Healy, Graham Rooney, Ryan Maher, Glen Spearing, Graham Matthews and Martin Byrne. Some quality games. Eventual winner was Glen Spearing who edged out an unlucky Ryan Maher 3-1 in a closely contested final. Ryan uncharacteristically missed several shots at a double to take the game to a deciding leg but was ultimately punished by Glen's clinical finishing.

Next week is the last week of the qualification stage of this competition. Last chance for players to gain a place in overall finals. Lots of players still in with a shout. Top 20 players plus ties if applicable will compete in finals. Current points standing attached.

Bobby will the finals be played on Saturday week and what format is it if you dont mind me asking?

Cracking comp by the way, any player starting out or has any ambition to better themselves should try get over and play in these.

Had hoped to play finals next week Saturday 16th February and will do so provided it suits everyone. Will decide after this Saturdays competition when all qualifiers are known. Where possible and within reason I try to facilitate players and if Saturday 16th February suits then finals will proceed accordingly. If not an alternative date will be arranged. Either way finals will be played before end of the month with the possibility of a mid week date if necessary. Format for finals remains the same 3x601 games Double Start --Final 5x601. Prize fund 1200 Euro guaranteed.

Good turnout despite some of regulars being on All Ireland duty. Some exceptional darts thrown with 180's flying in. Game between Graham Rooney and his namesake Keith was a tremendous game with both players producing tv standard performances. Other players of note were Tony Eagers. Anto McCracken, Sean McArdle, Andy Poole, Eamon Callery and Alan O'Hanlon. Eventual winner was a very impressive Keith Rooney who defeated a below par Anto McCracken 3-0 in the final. This game had added significance as the result determined which of these two excellent players would top the rankings list for qualification for the overall finals.

    Week No 12 Results

Congratulations to all those players who qualified for overall finals(See attached). Well done all. Date for these finals has still not been determined. Most likely be a mid week fixture as we are having problems finding a suitable Saturday due to fixture congestion etc. Will update ASAP

Still no definite date for overall finals. Fixture congestion over coming weekends means we will have to arrange a midweek fixture. Probably a Thursday night. Will update later. Usual competition on this Saturday 300 Euro guaranteed without ranking points.

Disappointing turnout but this did not detract from usual high quality standard. Winner on the day was Keith Rooney who rode his luck on several occasions but ultimately emerged victorious. Some excellent individual performances from players such as Gerry Healy, Joe Byrne, Martin Byrne, Keith Rooney and youth prodigy Liam Gallagher from Galway. Emerging talent Liam astounded onlookers by forcing Keith to pull out all the stops in a closely contested final.

Overall Finals this Thursday 28th February 8-30pm. Should be good night of darts. High quality field. All welcome.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 165 ✭✭btx170

Finals night and an expectant audience witnessed some excellent darts. Top class field ensured many competitive and fiercely contested games. Consequently there was quite a few shocks and some of the more fancied players made early exits. Notable performances on the night from such players as Keith Rooney, Graham Rooney(Played some brilliant darts and an unlucky loser) , Dan Kelly, Dave Crocker. Eugene McArdle, John Burke, Tony Eagers and Gareth Gray. Eventual winner was the irrepressible Keith Rooney who overcame exciting young player Dan Kelly in a tense final. Dan's day will inevitably come but Keith was a deserving winner. Having topped the rankings his relentlessly consistent and top quality displays were a feature the competition throughout.
On a more general note the competition was a resounding success and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all participating players for their support. Player support is imperative to the viability and success of any competition so hopefully we can maintain this core support in future competitions. On the subject of competitions there is a surplus of them over the coming weeks so to avoid fixture congestion we will be taking a break from our usual Saturday competition until after the Easter holidays. Next competition will be played Easter Monday 1st April 2-30pm. Usual 300 Euro guaranteed

Competition advertised for Easter Monday in the Bridge Inn has been cancelled due to fixture clash. Where possible we try to avoid competing with other tournaments. Therefore although not responsible for this fixture overlap we have decided to defer our competition to a later date.
