I Have Amalgamated a few Orthodontic Threads and will stick there to the main forum. Post all your questions about braces here.

My 14 yr old daughter needs to get braces as she has crowding and her teeth are crooked. I have seen an ad on paper yesterday for Dental Treatment in the North which appears cheaper than here in the South - does anyone know anything about getting this job done in the North? Thanks.

A couple of considerations. You need to be prepared to make multiple trips per year, and be in a position to go on short notice if there's a problem with an adjustment.

Also, you get tax relief in Ireland which you won't qualify for if you leave the state

Firstly never mind anything else, just think of the amount of school she will miss travelling up north each month/twice a month to get them adjusted.

If she breaks a rubber ban or wire up North you go.
The savings in baseline costs will quickly be eroded by petrol if you need to go up there 30-40 times.

Thanks for replies - is there any cheaper way of getting job done in the south as she is not bad enough to go through public system without a long wait?

The best thing to do is bring her to an Orthodontist, they can advise on a treatment plan and costs and if needed get a second opinion to see if costs are different.

Braces take a lot of time, is usually works out around 28 euro a week (3000 euro over 2 years) and most orthodontists do a pay as you go sort of plan. Treatment abroad is not practical as the travel costs more than the braces with all the visits. Pick an orthodontist near to her school so she can go by herself.

Im having mine done at the moment. I have to attend the clinic at least once every 6 weeks and it can be as regular as 2 week intervals. So far I have had 18 appointments and i only had them fitted last April. My advice is to find an orthodontist close to where you live as the cost and inconvenience of traveling to the north for treatment will far outweigh the overall cost of treatment locally.

Thanks everyone for all the advice. On thinking about it, travelling to the North would be a bit of a hassle - we'll go ahead with first appt. with local orthodontist and see from there.

Hi, I have just been to see an orthodontist in Dublin 4, my 16y.o daughter needs brasses , and she is to have a 24 months treatment, the price 4k, does anyone know any clinics in dublin that can give us a cheaper quote.
    thank you

Hi there rigu, its hard to tell about your quote. If the case is simple that could be high, if the case is hard that could be a very good quote. Also it depends on the person doing it. Best be is to google clinics locally (very important its handy to get you you will be going a lot) and bring her for a consult. The best orthodontists I know are not the cheapest orthodontists.

Am a student from Dublin, I have just had teeth braces by a dentist in Blackrock. Next year I will move to Tralee .I'd like to know whether it's possible to continue my treatment in another dentistry, because it will be difficult for me to return back to Dublin. I'd like to know the details some names of available dentistry.

    Thanks

Hi guys, I am 20 years old and I've had problems with my teeth for as long as I can remember. I am very self conscious about smiling and such as my teeth are very crowded and my front tooth sticks out a little. I feel that it would improve my confidence a hell of a lot if I got braces.

How much would I be looking at realistically? I only want them on the top and I want the traditional metal ones. I am unemployed at the moment and don't have €1000 to give right away, but is there any dentists out there that allow you to pay something off weekly or even monthly? I could perhaps manage that.

Any recommendations would be awesome. Thanks for the help :)

Your situation sounds identical to mine a few years ago. Definitely get the braces fitted. You will not regret it for a second.

Have a look here. Its the Orthodontic Society of Ireland. They list all the registered places. Do some research though on whoever you decide to go with and get some recommendations.

A lot of places will allow you to pay in instalments now, my guy did. I saw a specialist orthodontist in Blanchardstown who was fantastic. If it is any use PM me and I will pass you the information.

OP you will be extremely lucky to get braces for €1,000. My sisters are well over €3,000 and that's a competitive price. But your teeth are not something you want to go cheap one. You only have one set.

Hi OP, where a outs are you? My ortho allows payments monthly. Not sure of the cost though as I had them done 4 years ago and the prices seems to have dropped a lot.
My brother recently got just a top set braces and the total cost was 2000€ including after care etc. I'd say it would be hard to get them for a 1000€ anywhere.
I would recommend getting braces if you are feeling self conscious you should defiantly get them done. It has made such a huge difference to me.

Hi guys, always have been conscious about my smile and have finally decided to sort it out. Looking for a well recommended Ortho in dublin 24 or City Centre, would be grateful if anyone has some positive experience they could share (via PM per charter)

***no names allowed as per charter**

Thinking of clear ceramic upper, metal lower what's the rough ball park price am I looking at?

Post here the questions about braces, no names of dentists, orthodontist or clinics allowed as per charter.

Folks my 13 year old daughter needs braces, any recommendations for an orthodontist in the lucan area? She has seen one orthodontist who given a couple of options, one she needs to wear something to adjust her overbite (not sure why she needs this as we all have overbites?) for six months then braces for the bottom to adjust crowding at the front and if we can afford it top ones for one tooth that is slightly turned treatment over 21 months. Now that's all well and good and I'm sure he is a good orthodontist, but issues is I need a local orthodontist as my wife doesn't drive so taxi expenses will come into play when I cannot drive my daughter and from reading up sometimes you need to see them due to wire breakage etc. So if someone could pm me an orthodontist who some of you have used for your kids etc and have had a good experience, I would appreciate.

    Thanks
